Thanks to this and other info sources I have successfully upgraded my 7 Series (756) to 7Book in March 07. (netBook personality from Expansys)
I can confirm that a Compaq WL110 pcmcia wireless card works with the Lucent/Orinoco driver. Its FCC-ID is IMRWLPCE24R. Note the suffix R rather than H. I have also established the hard way (£!) that an Alvarion PC-DS.11b does not work despite having an FCC-ID IMRWLPCE24H. I believe that this is because the firmware is not the original and therefore is not recognised by the 7Book driver. I don't think it can be flashed, and didn't wish to risk it.
I also have fitted a 1Gb CF card from www.peak.com, which once formatted on the Psion has given absolutely no problems.
I have installed nConvert and nFTP and can now update my website on the move. Scary for someone who started his IT career on punched cards!
Thanks guys.

Here (http://www.epocfaq.co.uk/faqNetworks.htm#LANcompat) you can see which WiFi- card will work.

Did you also try to test the card in a 100% Psion netBook? If not, please do try or let someone else try. As I surely think it's exactly the same card as an Lucent/Wavelan/Orinoco.
Can it be the card is broken, or has some loose contacts? Just 4 days ago I had one Dell Truemobile 1150 not working and after some testing, got it working again only a few seconds before I had in mind throwing the thing in the wastebasket.

Card works in XP laptop. Detected as Alvarion and loads the same driver as Lucent. However, after much Googling I found a Mac site, which suggested the firmware problem.
Quote from www.powerbookwireless.net
"Alvarion BreezeNET PC-DS.11b. This card is a OEM of the Agere/Lucent WaveLan Gold Card. However its Non Volatile Ram is flashed so the ORiNOCO software does not recognize the card. It works great with the Macsense AeroCard Driver, however it receives a Not Recommended rating because of the expense of purchasing the card and then purchasing the software to make it work. If you have one of these cards, and it cost you little or nothing, then by all means use it. Works great under OS 8.6 - 9.2.2. "

I didn't have to alter the 7Book config, when I inserted the Compaq - connected instantly on launching Web.
I don't have a netBook to experiment further.
Hope this helps.
Jim

Hi I've just got a Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11G (no P) which fails to power up in my 7Book - any ideas anyone? (it works fine in my laptop)

When you put a PCMCIA card into a computer you see directly the connection lamps, but the Psion makes contact with the buffalo card only when you will make contact with the internet. So try to make contact to the email server and see what happens.

Thanks Kees for the rapid response and advice. I tried bu still no joy.The card doesn't light up when I put it in (but it does when I insert into my laptop!). I was wondering whether this card draws too much current as I know that is a problem with the 7book as opposed to the Netbook. NetStatRF shows not active for both radio and card!

Further to my last, I eventually managed to get it to light up - after inserting my old Belkin card (which draws too much current to work the 7Book sadly) then re-inserting the Buffalo. Not quite there yet though as my network is on 64bit WEP and it seems EPOC only allows for 40 0r 128 bit encryption in the ethernet setup. Still there's light at the end of the tunnel now!

The bufallo WLI-PCM-L11G is an 802.11b card, and looks to be very similar to the Lucent Orinoco Silver etc. So it should work the same as the standard Lucent card et al, although the stylus wil be blocked in.
