Hi
I have - in too much haste I feel - just brought citymaps and an IBM microdrive which I have not opened yet. Anyone out there using one of these rate it compared to a high capacity CF, and things you feel I might need to know like just how much extra battery does it use? And does it work OK in a CF reader in a PC or a mac etc? I would have been better to ask these earlier I know, but I got all excited and carried away though and had clicked and hope I will not repent at leisure. Any tips on loading citymaps onto the card appreciated also as it does not come with any paper manual. Not having access to a PC Yet I have not seen what sort of manual comes on the CD. Realised a bit too late that having city maps on the microdrive will mean I will not be able to just take it out and put it in the 5mx as well DOH! Anyone confirm that is possible with a CF or is city maps somehow locked to one machine as some form of piracy protection thing - I stress I have bought citymaps legitimately from Clove (excellent service) and do not desire or intend to break copyright or such like but would like to use it on both of my machines.

Thanks

I can't answer on the Microdrive, though it wont work in the Series 7's PC Card slot (Motherboard power not enough).

If City maps is like other earlier versions (e.g. Street Planner) then you can't swap the application to another machine as it will not work. However, if you install the application into c: on both machines and then all the maps onto CF/Microdrive, then you will be able to run on both machines, though, as you know, the Microdrive won't fit into the 5mx. I use a 512mb CF card in both machines in the same way and have no problems and the CF card is about the same price as the Microdrive. Large CFs do have an issue that the Psion reads the directory listing which can take a few seconds if you have a large CF, though this would be the same with the Microdrive.

thanks Beakynet, I still have not got round to loading the new city maps yet, or opening the microdrive. I would be interested to hear the someones experince of the microdrive in comparison to a CF. FWIW Crucial CF cards work well in the netbook and are selling for about £66 including vat and delivery for a 256MB CF which I thought was pretty good http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.asp?MODEL=Cassiopeia%20E-100
