I should preface all this with the fact that I'm a total novice with regard to the OS on the Zaurus. It has been used and reliable for all these years with only battery changes as a hitch to its performance.
Now, however, it is not initializing. The first message I got was that it was not getting enough power and to turn off, but I couldn't get rid of the message on the screen - it was frozen. I replaced the AA batteries and then the 2032 and use it with an AC adapter almost exclusively. After all the replacements, I tried a full reset, saying no to the hard reset and got my data back. I was out of town at the time and hoped to do a backup as soon as I got home. Since then, I have not been able to get to my data. It just cycles through a message that it cannot initialize (main memory problem) and to try the reset. I try the reset, say no, and it takes me back to the "main memory is not initialized or it is impaired" and says to do a reset. Anything else I can try? Right now my concern is getting a backup of what has been added since my last one (okay, too long ago!) It's like it is not getting power even though I've supplied all it could need. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Might this all have started because my backup battery, the 2032, had died and when I changed the AA batteries, first, I lost all data? I was reading another post that Dan C responded to that said the converse can happen and I'm thinking this could be my problem. If that's true, it looks like my data is toast. Should I just give it up and do a hard reset to see if I have a Zaurus left, period? put it in the freezer as suggested for hard drives? (kidding...)

Advice would be welcome, but even notes of sympathy would be okay about now. I should add that it never occurred to me to change the button battery in the last 9 years. :o

If the 2032 battery was bad and you replaced
the main batteries..the data is GONE ...do a main reset
and you will be back in business but no data..if still no good we
repair these units.

Thanks. I did a hard reset, but only after having to change the AA batteries again. Not sure what was draining the batteries while it sat there idle, but I'm suspicious that is what caused this problem in the first place. I also had it plugged in with the AC adapter for the last several days after it sat batteries-only for about 10 days. I'm back on and will try to restore the data that I do have backed up via Rupplynx and see if it recurs. If the main board is going, does that drain the external power supply? Could my AC adapter be bad? If the unit is repairable, need to know your website. Do you come up on the repairs listings for Zaurus? Thanks again for responding.
