Hi
I have a Psion 5MX is which is beginning to show signs of it's age - like myself.
I am in the UK and can buy a new Psion 5MX either on Ebay UK or elsewhere.
Can any member tell me how easy it is to transfer my existing Psion 5MX data to a new Psion 5MX and how do I do this?
Hope someone can help me.
Cheers

There are at least two easy ways you could do this.
One, if you have a PC and PsiWin, you can back up everything from your old Psion and restore it to your new one. If you've got a Mac, then the equivalent software will allow you to do the same thing I'm sure.
Two, if you don't have PC or Mac connectivity, you could get a 16MB or bigger CompactFlash card, copy the whole C drive to it from your old Psion, and copy everything back from it to the C drive of your new one. I collected a few 16MB cards for the purpose of backing up my 5mx this way. They're available on eBay and the 16MB ones are cheap, if you avoid searching with the Psion name (i.e. go straight to the memory card section of eBay and look for cards less than - I think - 64MB).
If you have just a few important files on your old Psion, you could of course beam them across to the new machine using infrared. But this has to be done one file at a time (as far as I know) and so could be a bit cumbersome if you have more than just a few files, or if you're unsure where all the files are.

Hi Snigfarp
Many thanks.
I have changed my computer to XP and it does not want to connect to my old Psion for some reason. My old Millenium has my old backups so I will try to see whether I can connect and do a new backup. I can then follow your suggestion. I had thought of the infra link but it would be tricky and would take ages.
Should the above not work I will try your 16MB route.
Again my thanks - from a rainy Derbyshire...........

For some reason I missed your reply. Anyway, I've found that on the 5mx, whole folders can be beamed at once using infrared. I've managed to beam stuff across from my 5mx to my Ericsson MC218 that way. Unfortunately for me, it doesn't work that way on the 5 classic.
