Hi Kenny
We've already discussed this a little bit at EpocChat, but there's one thing I may have missed. If the S7 is 32meg BEFORE the upgrade to netBook, then it must have had a 16meg memory upgrade added to it already. No real problem, but that memory will have to come out before the netBook upgrade - it can't work alongside the netBook module.
Once again, it's a saleable item, so I wouldn't worry too much. If you subsquently wish to augment the memory of your new "7Book", then you can add a 32meg card, just as you would with a standard netBook.

Hi NetBookBabe
thanksfor the reply
If the extra 16 meg comes out and the netbook chip put in, approx how much memory would i have after the os is installed?
& would i not be able to use that 16 meg.
Thank you

I had around 14.5meg free RAM after my installation of the most recent netBook OS version. No, you can't use the 16meg chip - if you want to upgrade a netBook then it has to be 32meg.
Having said that, although I would like a memory upgrade for my netBook, I have managed perfectly fine with it as it stands for well over two years now. The only time I find internal memory to be a limitation is if I'm trying to word-process, access e-mail, surf the Web and run several IM clients all at the same time - and that's just plain greedy, I admit! ;)

Kenny,
If you definitely want the machine to be upgraded to a netbook status, make sure the person you are buying it from can definitely get hold of the netbook personality module as stock have run out in the UK now. The chances of these being up for sale again are very very slim if not non-existent.
The seller may have already bought one though, but worth checking first, if that is your intention.

Thanks Wanman.
Yeah the chap that is selling the Series 7 had bought the P Module sometime back for approx 65 UKP. He says that he had never had the chance to put it in, but he would upgrade if i wanted him to for an extra 50UKP
Do ya think it's worth it??

Yeah that is a good saving, and is needed if one wants to use the Psion to go into java inabled chat rooms like Epocchat
RIGHT?? or can you just use the ordinary web browser?

Some Java applets work with Psion Web, but unfortunately not the one we use for EpocChat. I can't remember the exact explanation as to why not. The chat client we used previously did work with Web, but had many other snags, including bombarding us with popup adverts. They are annoying enough on PC, but on the Psion they make the chatroom pretty unusable, so we had to make the change.
Most users serious enough to want to access the chatroom from their Psions will tend to be using Opera anyway, as it's generally a much more capable browser, so I don't think this is much of an issue.
Apart from anything else, I would certainly not turn down the chance of that personality module - they're extremely scarce now!

I completely agree with Julie. Since inserting the netbook personality module, my 7book (as it is now called......well alright I call it bob actually !! lol) has worked a dream. It runs so much faster now it thinks it's a netbook and actually makes it a joy to use (even more so than when it was a 7). With the addition of the lastest OS, it means that Opera now runs from the button on the right of the screen (unlike WEB2.0 on the 7). Opera is the business and the only Web app to be used on the EPOC platform.
If you need any other help or info, just post it here.
