Hi

At some point in the future I will be upgrading my PC and transfering all my data from the old PC to the new PC.

This will include my Outlook PST file. At the end of this process, my e-mail, contacts, tasks and calendar will be on my new PC.

Does anyone know what will happen when I install ActiveSync on my new PC and sync for the first time? There will be no sync data for that PC; I hope my Outlook data will not be copied to the IPAQ because this will result in duplicate entries. Can I make my new PC "think" it is the old PC as far as ActiveSync is concerned?

Regards

PAtrick

Create new partnership with new pc then tell activesync to overwrite data on your iPAQ.

Thanks AnswerDude. How do I tell Active Sync to overwrite data on the IPAQ? All I have seen is a conflict resolution dialog. I am not convinced AtiveSync will detect a conflict because if will have no record the data being present on wither device. Is there a special option for the first sync to tell ActiveSync what to do? If so where is it?

If you create new partnership, activesync will prompt you with that option the first time you sync with the desktop when there are outlook data in your iPAQ.

Your device can only maintain one primary partnership through the built-in ActiveSync client. When you connect to a new computer, it will ask how you want the new partnership handled and whether you want it to replace the existing primary partnership. Make sure you respond that it should replace the existing primary. You then will be asked how you want the initial sync to handle the two existing data sets (desktop Outlook and device PIM data). Since this particular issue arises only on the initial partnership sync, there is no standing option setting for the merge/replace question.
