The Zire is not a good PDA. For the same price, you can get an m105 that has 4 times the memory, a USB cradle, 4 hard keys, Flash memory, a backlit screen and the option to change the faceplate. I wouldn't be surprised if the Zire is dropped soon from the Palm line. cliemea 01-24-2003, 08:17 PM good point, but the zire has os 4.1 while the m105 has 3.5. but then again, you could get an os 4.1 upgrade for about $30 ebisix 01-24-2003, 09:37 PM Originally posted by cliemea good point, but the zire has os 4.1 while the m105 has 3.5. but then again, you could get an os 4.1 upgrade for about $30 True. However, I don't think the OS would be too much of an issue. palm boy 02-01-2003, 10:39 AM All that os 4 does is give you SD support, which the ZIRE does not have. cliemea 02-02-2003, 04:13 PM not really, most newer applications require at least os 4.o palm boy 02-02-2003, 06:34 PM But do you have room for new apps? cliemea 02-04-2003, 10:23 PM or course i have room with 16mb, and so does the zire with 2. Most newer megasoft apps need 4.0 ebisix 02-04-2003, 10:57 PM The Zire does have room, but not much. lexjuris 02-06-2003, 09:48 AM I think I would love to play pocket scorch over the Zire!!! kuka11 02-07-2003, 07:04 PM i saw the zire brand new (not refurbished) for $79 at a local electronics store. maybe the are going to drop in price soon. good beginers pda if someone isnt sure if they will use one or not. cliemea 02-10-2003, 04:59 PM but still if you not sure if your going to use it or not, you could just get an m100 or evan an old pilot 1000 for that matter palm boy 02-10-2003, 05:22 PM and the m100 has four buttons Matthew Poulsen 02-17-2003, 11:26 PM I think a point everyone needs to consider is that those buying a Zire are usually complete infants to the PDA world. The don't know that the m105 is a better but cheaper PDA. They buy the Zire because its under $100 and it looks cool. It definitely "looks" better then the m105. From a marketing point of view it was brilliant of Palm to make the Zire. From a consumer funtionality point of view it would be stupid to buy a Zire. From a consumer "sexiness" point of view the Zire is a cheap solution. So depending on who you are the Zire obviously has different value. I'm sure I'm stating the obvious for most but maybe not all. chipper 02-18-2003, 03:25 AM The reason why I have bought the Zire is the fact that there is a rechargable Li-ion battery included. I just *hate* batteries and changing them with the risk of losing everything. Some more positive things of the Zire are the exellent sharp and clear screen (compared with the M105). This has to do with the fact that the Zire has no backlight and that the pixels are therefore closer together, meaning a sharper screen. The nice, small, white design is of course excellent and is very stylish compared with the M105. For my applications (Agenda Adress book and some add-on programs like chess, a star-map, scientific calculator etc.) the 2Mb memory is not even an issue. My address-book with over 100 contacts only takes up 14 Kb of the total 1800 available... Another point is that in Europe (at least in Belgium) the older Palm models are very hard to get and are still expensive compared with the Zire. cliemea 02-18-2003, 05:39 PM Originally posted by chipper 100 contacts only takes up 14 Kb of the total 1800 available... It seem you havent discovered the joys of freeware yet PDA Street
