Do I have bad m515 karma? I just upgraded to an m515 after many, many happy years with Palm Vs. I also bought a metal case for it. Twice now, the pda has apparently turned on while in the case. The next time I use it, it refuses (irrevocably) to ever synch again, despite reboots. So I have to return the pda and get a new one. Additionally, the on button stays on green, no matter what I do. I'm not certain what to take. Seems silly to buy a new m515. Our office is Mac based and we're brand loyal. Any suggestions?

I don't think that Palms are Karma sensative. You just got one that had a problem, perhaps a small piece of loose solder inside that during shipment got lodged in the wrong place.
I think you will be fine with a new one.
As far as working with Mac's there is a Mac Handheld in the pipe line but not till mid 2003, if my sources are on target.

Actually, this is the 2nd brand-new m515 that has developed the same problem. I just got this one up and running last Friday. Could it be that it hates the hard case? Hates the bag I carry it around in? Hates Avantgo? I need a pda that likes me. If not a Palm, what? I loved my Palm Vx. It's just not made anymore. Do you think I should go through the hassle of buying a 3rd new m515?

There are in fact a number of reasons that seem related to the Palm 515 coming on in the case. Some times it is actually turned on just as the case is being made to open. Other times there are software issues that cause the unit to come on.
I have three friends with the new Tungsten models. They are using only the cover that they came with them and have had no unusual turn on events. Perhaps if you can change up to the TT you should.
I too loved my Palm Vx. I recently bought a new IBM C3 which is a Black re-badged version of the Vx made for IBM. I find it very disappointing after the 515. The screen in dim light is the main failing. Still love the shape and feel.

Thank you for these replies, by the way. Is the IBM C3 Mac compatible?

As much as any Palm Vx. The only differences in the C3 and the Vx are the case, Black with IBM Blue Logo and the IR has been boosted a bit to satisfy the desire of IBM for IR HotSync to their laptops.
If you are interested I would sell the C3. It has the Palm OS 4.1 upgrade and has been used very little, charged only twice. I would like to sell it as a package with, of course the charger/cradle. the Leather Flip cover, Palm folding Keyboard and Palm Black leather Keyboard case (holds the Keyboard and the C3) and a Palm wire modem. The price I am asking is $225. All the components are as new. All packing warranty info and disks included.

While that's a superb price and I thank you for the offer, I must decline. I'm not the techy you clearly are and am too dependent on certified, time intensive Palm support when problems arise. But thank you anyway. Over and out.
