I used to use my iQue M5 in the standard Garmin car cradle/speaker/power cord that came with the M5, plugged into my Volvo S60's "auxiliary socket" (i.e., lighter), when driving, and it's always charged while driving and the speaker has always worked fine. Unfortunately I discovered one day that the part on the power cord that goes into the lighter had fallen apart (as I saw pieces of it scattered around under the seat), so I bought a new cradle/speaker/power cord from Garmin after I couldn't get the old one to work.

However, the new cradle/speaker/power cord does not work; the iQue M5 doesn't charge in it while driving (neither the green nor the orange light on it comes on at all, even while the car is running) and the speaker in the cord doesn't work at all. I'm thus assuming that somehow my cradle/speaker/power cord messed up my lighter, as power doesn't seem to be flowing into the iQue M5. Has anyone else successfully resolved this problem?

Thanks.

Did you try plugging something else into that socket to make sure there is power there? Did you check for a blown fuse protecting that socket?
