I purchased a ZIO memory stick reader. My intention had been to upload programs, data, etc using MS Gate to the memory stick. I have attempted to install the ZIO reader on my computer, with no luck. I am using Windows XP and I have installed SP1.

I tried the ZIO website. It lists some updates for Windows XP, but they all assume you already have the ZIO reader as a recognized drive on the computer. I cannot even get that far.

This may be operator error. Does anyone have any ideas on how to install this reader? Also, has anyone used the memory stick and MS Gate to load data, programs, etc? If so, is there anything you can tell me about it - how well it works, what to watch out for, etc.

Thanks.

Hi,

* Memory Stick media include a write-protect tab to prevent accidental erasure of data. On the back of the Memory Stick media slide the write-protect tab in the direction of the arrow for write-protect mode. When in write-protect mode it is possible to read data but not to write or delete data. Slide the write-protect tab in the direction opposite the arrow to allow data to be written or deleted.

NOTE: When in write-protect mode a a small red square will be revealed at the left side of the write protect tab.

* To copy or transfer data to Memory Stick media from the Sony handheld requires at least twice the amount of memory available on the handheld as the data to be copied or transferred. For example, to copy or transfer a 30K application, it is necessary to have at least 60K of memory available on the Sony handheld.

NOTE: When entering characters to the Sony handheld via the screen keyboard, or when specifying the application to execute, press lightly on the desired button or icon with the stylus. This action of pressing lightly on the screen with the stylus is called "tapping."

1. Insert the Memory Stick media into the Sony CLIE handheld.

NOTE: Please click here for detailed instructions on how to insert Memory Stick media into the Sony CLIE handheld.

2. Power on the CLIE handheld.

3. At the left side of the Graffiti Writing Area, tap the HOME icon to show all programs available.

NOTE: It may be necessary to tap the HOME icon several times until the word "All" appears at the upper-right corner of the screen.

4. On the "All" screen, tap the MS Gate icon.

5. On the "MS Gate" screen, at the top-right corner, tap the Down Arrow and then tap to select the location of the files to be transferred.

NOTE: The two locations are "Internal" for internal CLIE memory, and "MS" for Memory Stick media.

6. Tap to select the files to be moved.

NOTES:

* When there are too many files to be displayed at once a scroll bar will appear at the right side of the screen. Tap the Up Arrow or Down Arrow on the scroll bar to move up or down through the list of available files.

* When browsing internal CLIE memory, directories are indicated by a small arrow to the left of the directory name. When the directory is open the arrow will point down and the file names will be displayed. When the directory is closed the arrow will point to the right and no file names will be displayed. Tap the arrow to open or close the directory.

* When browsing the Memory Stick media, directories are indicated by folder icon to the left of the directory name. Tap a folder to open that directory. To move to the next higher directory level, tap the bent arrow icon at the top-left corner of the "MS Gate" screen.

* To select all files, tap Select All at the lower left corner of the "MS Gate" screen.

* To deselect all files, tap Clear All at the lower left corner of the "MS Gate" screen.

* To deselect individual files that have been selected tap the file name again.

7. On the "MS Gate" screen, at the bottom, tap COPY to copy the selected files or MOVE to move the selected files from the source to the destination.

8. At the Copy File or Move File confirmation message, tap OK.

NOTE: See related solution "The Warning Message 'Access Inhibit' Is Received When Trying To Copy Or Move A File To The Memory Stick From The CLIE Handheld." if an "Access Inhibit" message is displayed.
