The Toshiba E335 is down to $279 with rebates. It has color and 64mb but uses Pocket PC platform. The SJ30 is $249. I know this is a Clie site, but can anyone give an opinion on why the Sony would be a better deal?

Just one. I've had both. I have NEVER lost a connection through HotSync manager to the PC in the dozens of different Palm models (from Palm Prof to the SJ30) over the past 5 years. I tried a 335 last week and it lost its ActiveSync partnership after TWO DAYS. I spent hours trying to get it back to no avail. I need a PDA, not a science project.

This question boils down to Palm OS vs. Pocket PC/Microsoft OS, in my opinion. I tried the new Ipaq h3910--a nice compact pocket PC with a gorgeous hi-res screen, but I didn't like the software, nor Microsoft Outlook that it links to. So I took it back & purchased a Clie SJ30 with Palm OS platform, and found it much more intuitive, user-friendly, and stable . . . BTW, there is a place on the SJ30 to check "Enhanced high resolution", which I recommend--it really took the resolution from very very good, to excellent.

The software choice is a personal preference thing, but I agree with the gentlemen who responded earlier who succintly said, "I don't need a science project". Personally, I am a businessman. I just want a PDA that is simple and intuitive to operate, synchs seemlessly, and gives me no headaches. I voted for the Palm OS system on the Clie.

I am actually still reviewing this thread. The replies have helped me to decide on going with the SJ30. I am very happy with it. Thanks for the inputs.
