I just bought a Psion Revo and everything seems fine..... except.... I'm inputting contact info without any problems but when I try and use the phone Icon I get asked for a password... I didn't put one in. Is there a default password or a way to over ride it and why does it only ask for a password in Phone???

any help greatly appreciated

The Revo's "Phone" app does use its own password system, separate from the main system password accessible from Control Panel (which locks the whole device).

I'll have to guess here, but it sounds like you may have bought the Revo from someone else who has used it, set a password in the phone app, and has forgotten to delete it before passing the machine on to you.

A hard reset of the Revo will resolve this problem, but bear in mind that this will result in loss of all your own data, so approach with caution. If you've only just got the machine, then a fresh start is advisable in any case, and I'm surprised that whoever sold it to you did not reset the machine. The alternative is to persuade the person who sold you the machine to tell you the password, then you will be able to reset it to your own choice.

If, on the other hand, you bought this machine brand new, then I am completely baffled as to how it could be asking for a password in the phone app - it only requests this if you have specifically set one.

Many thanks for your assistance. It looks as if a hard re-set is my only option (only 6 records input....phew....) All I need to know now is how to do it..... (Can you guess I'm a newbie???)
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

Hi Merc

Newbies are very welcome here - no worries! Ok - mini tutorial on resetting coming up:

First you need a tool - recommended item is a paper clip, unfolded and bent into the shape of a hairpin. (Or, you could use a hairpin!)

Open the Revo, turn it upside down, and you will see two very tiny holes next to the barcode label at the left hand side labelled 1 and 2. Note that you can only access these when the Revo is open.

There are two types of reset - for a soft reset, press gently in hole 1 with the end of the paperclip, and for a hard reset you need to press in both 1 and 2 simultaneously. The machine will beep when you switch on and is now reset.

If you have chosen the hard reset, then your machine will now have reverted to its original, brand new out-of-the box state, with all its built-in applications ready to run, but with none of your own personal data. It's a good idea to have a fresh start like this to eliminate any oddments of files that may have been left behind by a previous user. The hard reset is what you need in your present circumstance, in order to obliterate the old password.

A soft reset is somewhat less drastic - it can be useful to get you out of trouble if some app misbehaves and freezes up your machine, for example. Soft reset should rarely result in the loss of any data, except perhaps in the app you were using when the problem occurred. You should always close down all apps that are running (if you possibly can) before performing the reset.

A soft reset can also be performed by means of a small software app that you install to Control Panel, which eliminates the need for fiddling with paper clips. Let me know if you want info on that.

I think you have enough to be going on with there! Post again if there's anything else you need clarifying.
