Unfortunately I upgraded my 3200 fairly soon after Release 3 came out.
I'm wondering if there's anyone else using a 3200 and R3 and seeing frequent crashes. The 3200 has gone from a great tool to a unreliable brick.

I've tried everything possible, including reverting to old maps, using an older SDcard, and even buying a NOS replacement iQue on eBay. Both my original unit and the eBay unit occasionally crash when the GPS is enabled. It's a hard reset with everything wiped - thankfully I've got BackupBuddy running so I can recover.

After some attempts with Garmin support to get my (still-in-warrantee as it had been refurbished) iQue fixed, they issued a warrantee RMA. This morning that new unit crashed, again as a hard reset. Sitting in my car, not even moving. One of the other units crashed while in the cradle in my house.

So, I have had three separate iQue 3200s with 5.2.1r3 failing frequently enough to be very annoying. I'm close to giving up and buying a separate GPS for the car.

So, anybody else with a 3200? How is the latest software working for you? Does anyone have a copy of release 2 I can try, as downgrading seems to be the only solution at this point.

Help!! :D

I had the same problem after upgrading. I noticed that if I did a hard reset the unit operated Ok but when I put it in the cradle and did a hotsync the next time I used it I had severe lockup.

What I did was to do a hard master reset. I then did a selective hotsync of only my waypoints (address File) and nothing else. After that it worked fine. I then did a hotsync setting it to have handheld overwrite PC data.

After that my problems were gone.

ok, after about 5 years of using my IQUE 3600 almost everyday w/o hardly any problems at all.....including multiple trips from DC to CA... i was one of the fortunate ones to have gotten a good 3600 that had no problems. all the functions worked too. maybe about 5-10 soft resets per year....everything was GREAT until i sat on it and "broked" the screen.

i tried the new HP iPAQ rx5915 for $400 and OMG, what a nightmare POS that was. didn't feel like re-entering thousands of contacts neither. it's using MS but can't sync to MS Outlook out-of-the-box.

so i bought an iQue 3200 new for $189. now the fun starts. it keeps FULL reseting (wiping out all data) when i'm using the GPS. i'm just testing it out and on day 1, it hard resets 5x out of 5 tries.

should i take a chance and update the OS with 5.2.1r3

one guy said it made it worse :( :( :(

should i try it?

I've played with my wife's iPAQ and I'm not impressed. I want the palm PDA software, simple sync'ing, etc. that I get from the iQue.

OK, that's what I'm seeing. Two different 3200s, same behavior. Yes, I'm a nut and I have TWO iQues currently. However, I've given up and bought a Nuvi for navigation as the iQue units aren't reliable any more. Of the two I currently have, one has a dead internal antenna (it was recently bought so I'm hoping I can get Garmin to repair it under warranty.) The other seems mostly OK, but often when I try to turn it on it won't power up without a reset. Sometimes it needs a hard reset; luckily I've got Backup Buddy to backup my data.

Well, it can't hurt. You're seeing the same crashing I saw with 5.2.1r3. I'd try disconnecting the battery prior to the upgrade to see if that makes it more stable.

I guess I'm not the only one with 3200s falling over; perhaps there's a real bug here. It's been suggested that some of the non-US GPS satellites are sending out bad data causing these crashes. If so, it may be hard for Garmin to fix.

here's another thought about our crashes since we both have multiple units.

1. i've used my 3600 on computer (A) for years with Map v.4

2. during initial install, at a certain point it says to press the SYNC button....i'm not sure, but i think this "marries" the SN# of this unit to the "map unlock key" number that i put in.

3. i break my iQue 3600 and buys a 3200.....

4. i install new CD's w/Map v.6 into Computer (B) and syncs 3200.

5. but all of my data is on Computer (A)

6. so i Full Reset my 3200 to wipe it all out. then i SYNC with Computer (A) where the old iQue 3600 was being synced.

7. i manually load the new maps from Computer (B) onto SD card w/o syncing.

Question: would this screw something up since the 3200 checks which Map Unlock Key is legally being used, etc?

all of my data is fine though. and so are the maps, etc.

it just crashes every time when being used.

btw, after having this problem the very first day....i went and ordered a backup, no thrills GPS. turns out this little MIO for $172 got really good reviews so i bought that instead of the planned Garmin Nuvi 200 ($180).

check it out:

just tried out this new SD card for over 1 hour straight driving and it didn't crash at all.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=134292&cm_keycode=85

it must be the card. the 3200 wants really slowass cards. i've tried 3 other before that were faster and they crashed.

so i think i'm ok. i'm not going to update to 5.2.1r3 just yet. too nervous.

At one point I went back to an old SD card that used to be stable; no difference. Even without a card inserted I had a crash, so I really don't think that's the problem. I'm becoming more and more convinced that it's not the software upgrade that caused the problem and that it's some flaky GPS signal killing the 3200. Frustrating.

UPDATE: so after using this for nearly a month, it's working fine with this Sans Disk SD card. no crashes.

well it crashed once (wiping out all data).....but that was when i was using the GPS and had my backup software set to backup at the same time. i remember crashing with my old 3600 so i remembered to set the backup at late hours only.
