Hello does anyone have:
1) a procedure for opening the case and replacing the backup battery (including the battery specs or part no.)
2) I am actively looking for replacements for the main battery pack (preferably in Europe) I have the specs thanks to previous posts I read in the archives... I saw someone got the pack refurbished with Panasonic batteries which actually last slightly longer .. would be nice to know the part numbers !
Thanks

LGE USA recently got some battery packs in. I got one about 2 weeks ago. They told me they had about 100 or so. U.S. phone # 800-243-0000.

I also have a back-up battery replacement procedure that someone was kind enough to send me. It's a 2 MB pdf file. Let me know your email address if you want me to send it.

Hello Steve,
thanks for the info. I would be very grateful if you could send me the .pdf document for the bk battery replacement procedure. My e-mail address is edwardb@libero.it.
With regard to the main battery I am contacting several OEM battery mfgs (Panasonic, Sanyo, etc.) to see if they have outlets selling them to individuals. Any Li-ion cylindrical battery that has the figures 18650 inside the part number is a likely candidate (after need check size, volts and mAh's). If this fails I will ask a friend in the US to contact the number you kindly gave me. Do you know how much they charge for the replacement ?
Thanks again
Edward

Some notes on battery replacement:

For the main battery pack, they used Moli Energy 1.75V 1200 mAh Li-ion cylindrical cells, size 18650. The cells use Molybdium electrodes, which are slightly unusual, and theoretically do not require circuitry for charging (though the Phenom uses it). That having been said, it is nearly impossible for a consumer to obtain regular Li-ion cells. My latest quest has been to find other consumer devices that use these cells so that I could harvest them, but so far, no luck (would love to hear any success stories).

On another note, could somebody forward the instructions for replacing the backup battery to me at junkmail@wirespring.com I would appreciate it, and I'll post any information I get regarding replacing the main battery pack (btw, as of 12/14/02, LG still had about 20 official Phenom battery packs in stock for about $70 delivered)

I called LG last spring and summer a few times to try to get a replacement battery pack for my LG Phenom, and they kept telling me to call back in a few weeks as they were trying to find a new suppier. Finally, they told me they would not be providing any new battery packs, but had a company that could rebuild an owners existing battery pack for $79. Now I'm reading some fo the forum posts stating that they have recently been selling some battery packs.

I opened up my pack and noted that it had two Molicel 18650 Lithium ion cylindrical battery cells in it:(http://www.molienergy.bc.ca/specs/ICR18650G.pdf)

I contacted Molicel in Canada by email to purchase two new cells, but they never responded. Sony and Panasonic make compatible similar battery cells as well, but will not sell directly to consumers. Apparently the battery discount stores cannot even get these lithium ion cells in stock in their stores or even order them for customers.

I found a battery wholesaler on the web that cells individual lithium ion cells for $6 each, so I ordered some last week through my office (www.sabahoceanic.com). Hopefully they'll ship them to me, and then I'll place them in the pack to refurbish it. It appears that the cells are possibly soldered to contacts between the battery cells.

If anyone has technical information about rebuilding these battery packs and soldering the connections, I would most appreciate it if you could email a copy to me as an attached file or email text.

The company that supplies the individual Panasonic Lithium ion cells is:

Sabah Oceanic: www.sabahoceanic.com

The item number and description is:
Panasonic Lithium-ion Rechargeable Batteries
CGR18650HG 3.7V. 1800mAh 18.3mm 64.7mm US$6.00

Considering the difficulty I've enountered trying to obtainb these lithium ion cells from most suppliers, I would suggest ordering them using your business address, rather than your home address.

I hope this is helpful to other LG Phenom owners.

Eric

Eric,
thanks for the info. Went thru your similar experience with no-replies from various lithium-ion cell suppliers. Apparently they can explode if improperly wired. Will try this source. The procedure to replace them is a simple soldering iron exercise. If you need the internal button cell replacement procedure (much more complicated), I have the file kindly given to me by Steve45. It's big (>2 megs) you I need an e-mail address that can handle it.
Bye

I just called LG in Alabama and placed an order today over the phone for a replacment battery for my LG Phenom.

I was told it would take up to 30 days as the batteries are on back-order.

If anyone knows of another Internet source that may carry these, I'd appreciate it.

Wow, you revived a 4 year old thread. I hope it gets some attention, this is about the only spot I can find the LG Phenom even referenced and I just bought one.

I'm also looking at battery replacement and would love to get that 2Mb file sent to itjstagame at gmail.com but in addition I received mine without the sync cable, does anyone know how this attaches and where they can be bought or maybe a pinout/socket type to create one? I just want to get files to this, I thought it came with a compact flash slot but I guess the H200C didn't...

Any help would be great!
