hi all,
what are the sypmtoms of an LCD screen failure?

im just a little confused at the difference between a touch screen and LCD failure.

i guess if your LCD then its not a DIY repair job is it?

my screen refuses to light up at all, no cigar.
some folks say it a dodgy battery, others say check the touch screen, or its an LCD prob if u can see dark splotches on it...

any more checklists you have i can run through to make sure?

cheers

As a rule the failure of the LCD on a Casio pertains to greying out of the top 1/3 portion of the screen. The touch screen - the part that senses your stylus inputs i.e. taps, double taps, tap & hold / drag continue to work.

Seems like the failure is not in the LCD but the fluorescent lamp at the top end of it. It could be the lamp itself or the inverter circuit.

Have an experienced technician check the lamp out. It is not a very diffucult item to replace. Nor is there any desoldering / soldering involved.

Hope this helps.

thanks there pmshah, thats a good piece of info, will look into that.

gives rise to another question though. would that affect the devices communication with a PC during a synchronisation attempt?

stick it in the cradle and it doesnt want to know.

thanks for your help.

my e125 screen failed Dec 19th. i had hints before when it seemed that the unit just powered down and blanked the screen but continued to work(if you looked closely you could still see the screen display).I spent the weekend scouring the net and you guys answered my question -backlight failure.

digitalspook,
i can still sync my 125 with my pc but i can't read the display. did you try your reset button then try to sync?

I spoke to a friend who advised that i might now own a paperweight or have to pay 1/2 for a replacement unit<this ain't happening since my unit is only 2years old. am i expecting too much for spending 600canadian?.

as luck would have it i tried calling Casio customer service today and they were closed for christmas . i got miffed and placed an order for Dell's Axim 5.

by the way has anyone heard that Casio has stopped making the 200? is this really true?

Since you can see the display I feel that either the fluorescent lamp has blown or the inverter board has gone bad. In either case the cost of replacement part should not exceed US$ 20/=.
