I'm using CN NA 2008 in my IQue3600. For a couple of Interstate Hwys here in PA when I'm in the navigation mode, I get the correct exit numbers - those that correspond to the mile posts. When I'm not in the navigation mode though, the exit numbers displayed are the old sequential numbers which were replaced by the new mile post exit numbers several years ago. Is this some quirk in CN NA 2008? Has anyone else found this oddity? I'm at a loss to explain why the exit numbers are correct in one usage, but not in the other. Any explanation would be appreciated, or is this an issue I need to discuss with NAVTEQ?

I may be way off base here, but I seem to recall a rather old discussion regarding a similar issue. Is it possible to check when navigating if the data you are seeing is the updated data in V2008 (detailed maps), but when simply viewing the map when not routing the data is from the (older, less accurate) basemap? Check the lower right corner of the screen for scale and see if the detail or basemap is active.

Just guessing,

Dennis

Perhaps you are right Dennis - but just playing around with the IQue in my house using the Map mode (GPS is off), I go from the detailed maps to the basemap when I change the scale of the map from 3 miles to 5 miles per the approx 3/8" long scale marker. The numbers of the exits are the same whether in detailed map or basemap, that is the new exit numbers corresponding to mile markers. I'll have to check the next time I'm out and about to see if that's still the case. Usually - but not always, I have the scale of the map blown up to 800' per the scale marker, so I would definitely be using the detailed maps. Thanks for your thoughts.

I contacted Garmin cartography about this issue - and here is the answer:

The exits in the latest detailed maps will be the newer ones for PA/FL. However, when you do a "find exit" with the unit, it will search the general basemap, no matter the detailed maps...and the numbers in the basemap won't be the newer ones (it will also tell you the old basemap exit numbers for upcoming exits when you don't have a route going). Everything appears fine when routing as it uses the detailed maps loaded for that (will show you the new numbers for the routing prompts), but when you are not following a route you will see the old numbers.

That answers the question.
