What do y'all think of the CD's full of software you can buy off ebay for less than $10? There are two listers who have them.

I also was intrigued by someone who said they used their iPAQ as a remote device for their tv, DVD, CD/Stereo, etc. How can I program my iPAQ to do this?

Where do y'all get free/low cost software for your iPAQ's. I need something to play avi's and a better picture viewer. That is why I am considering getting one of these CD's full of programs from ebay.

Also, does anyone have a book they would recommend to help get the most out of the iPAQ? I found one listed on several book sites but only had two reviews.... one great and one that said if you know anythng at all, the book was a waste.

Thanks in advance for your help and responses.

Thanks for the links. I will explore them further. I did find a PDA e-mag that has its archieve at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/archives.asp

Perhaps that will help me get up to speed on things. It is always good to read reviews of items before installing them and finding you don't care for the features and then need to remove them and try some new software.

I also found many others sites that give tips for use, etc. These links and this message board should improve my ability greatly.

By the way, I keep reading about a soft reboot. What is that? I would imagine a hard reboot is turning the PDA off and then back on. What is the soft reboot?

Anyone else have favorite software (fully functional but cheaper the better)?

In a nut shell:
Turning the pda off and on by using on/off button is more like suspending the pda and bring it back.
Soft reset is like restarting or rebooting your desktop.
Hard reset will get you back to factory setting state.

In order to do a soft-reboot or soft reset, take your stylus, and then turn your IPAQ upside-down. You should see a little hole next to the side-end of the IPAQ...insert the stylus and give it a little push - you should feel it push in...then remove the stylus. That is the reset switch.

Depending on the model you have, there are different ways to do a hard-reset...hopefully you don't have to use that info...

Thanks, I did realize there was a reset switch there. I know about the other switch on the bottom that reverses everything to factory settings and did not want to mess with that.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond with a clear answer.
