Anything I should watch out for? massmac 08-30-2002, 02:44 PM Ah, yes there is software. We Mac users also have to be sneaky and creative to use some of it. There are some items that will work, and others that won't. Start with the sync program. Go to Palm.com and download the Palm desktop software for Macintosh. There are a couple of versions for older operating systems, up to OS 9.2 AND they just came out with one for OS X. A private company also has one for sale called the Missing Sync, but that costs money. I have a Mac G3 B&W running OS 9.2, and a Sony Clie T615C, and have had no major problems. There are free or cheap programs that allow Macs to decompress .zip files, so that takes care of that. After unzipping the file, you open the Palm desktop software, select "install handheld files" and copy the .prc or .pdb files, then sync with the PDA. It may also be possible to handle Windows .exe files IF you have Virtual PC running on your computer. Finally, the CD which came with the Clie can be opened by the Mac. It actually "mounts" on the desktop, and you can look for file names of many of the neat software features. Again, having the most recent version of Virtual PC may be of benefit. I even got the free web clipping service AvantGo to work, once I downloaded older versions of the Palm Desktop and associated software. The AvantGo site shows which files to use. Once you practice downloading and syncing .prc and .zip files, you'll find many sites filled with free or cheap software. A simple search on Yahoo, Google, etc. reveals dozens of web sites. I wish Sony would provide more support for Macs, but I am still very happy with my choice of PDA. Think of the software search as a challenge. Hope this information helps in some way. PDA Street
