Hi all,
Hope I have posted in the correct place!
My first post on this forum been a Psion 3c user for some time, now upgrading to a 5mx refurbished machine.
I am wondering if any members here know what compact flash memory cards work with the 5mx machine, I have heard that some of the type 1 cards from some manufacturers do not work.
If any member could help I would be grateful.:)

I've been using SanDisk 512MB CF cards in all my Psions (5, 5mx, 5mxPro, netBook) with no problems.

Thanks for getting back to me! I have purchased a Sandisk 512 MB CF but the machine does not recognise it because it needs formatting, how do I format it when the machine doesn't see it!

Try these:
1. Format on a PC making sure you use the FAT format. Do not use the NTSF (or whatever the default format is WindowsXP - I'm not sure of the exact tame). You'll probably need a card reader hooked up to the PC.
2. Format in a digital camera that uses CF cards.
Good luck.

One of the reasons I haven't invested in a big CF card is the speed of the file browser on bigger volumes. My machines are slow enough with the 64mb cards I use. Am I right in thinking it'll be even worse with the bigger cards?

I read somewhere on one of the Psion links that you can Partition a Solid State CF flash card, as I am new to using the compact flash cards I cannot comment further:confused: perhaps someone with more experience will comment.

That would be one way around the problem. I suppose it all works well if you're storing large files on there too, like big encyclopedias in a Data file and such like.

Yes you are right, when you use RMRFile or something like that. But when you run View+ (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67217) on your 5MX, you don't have that problem. V+ is a verry, verry, verry fast filemanager. Try it, recommanded.
I run a 512MB on my 5MX and a 1GB in the nB.

Yes, partitioning works great. My 1GB card is partitioned into three, and a 48MB partition work as fast as a 48MB CF disk.
Kees, do I recall that you wrote a guide to View+? This enormous suite of programs and utilities needs something.
