My Psion series 3a 2mb version said my backup battery needed replacing so I removed it. Now I cannot see any files in the main memory, just the files on the installed flash card. The machine was on external power at the time and the main batteries are described as good but I suspect I forgot to switch off before removing the battery. Putting the battery back in has made no difference.

I do have backup although it's a bit out of date. I would prefer not to have to lose more recent data. Can anyone tell me what has happened and if I can recover? Thanks

I can't see why the files should go if the machine was on external power. A few things cross my mind. Is the power socket working properly (no bad connections)? Did the machine do a full reset when the batteries were changed (i.e. beep, default settings)?

The external power was definitely on, it's always on and the green light on the Psion was lit. The machine does seem to have reset itself. When I removed the battery the screen went back to the Series 3a Logo and I ended up with applications which I had configured out like "Spell" and "Patience".

I didn't expect a reset as it was not only on external power but also on main batteries that are good but a reset is what it looks like.
