m505 Compatability

I happily have been using my m505 for the past 15 months. I am now considering buying a Tungsten, and wonder if I will be able to transfer all the data from my 505 (and SD card) to a Tungsten. Anyone know?

I got an M505 in November '01 & just switched to a Tungsten T about a month ago. I had no problems with compatibility in terms of apps, except for one specialized schedule program that my school uses. All of my apps either worked as they were or I could get an upgraded version. My data all transferred easily to the Tungsten with a hot sync - the cradle is the same for both units.

I have one SD card with a lot of photos for Splash Photo and ebooks for Palm Reader. I just popped it right into the Tungsten with no problems. The Tungsten is much faster to access the data on the SD card than the M505 was, and the display is awesome compared to the M505.

The only issue I have had other than the schedule program is with Mapopolis. I downloaded the newest version for OS 5, but it doesn't always work. The Mapopolis people say that it is a conflict with Bejeweled! & that it is really due to a problem with OS 5 that the Palm people know about & are going to fix with OS 5.1. If I run Mapopolis before Bejeweled!, I have no problems. If I have played Bejeweled! & then try to start Mapopolis, I have to do a soft reset, but then Mapopolis works.

Thanks Kasia for the information. Now I just have to convince Santa that what I really need is not clothes, but is a Tungsten!

I have seen other mentions of problems with Mapolis, and I was worried about that since I live inDC and use it quite a bit. It seems that there are some good work-arounds though, so that shouldn't be a problem. The access speed on my 505 for the SD card has really surprised me. I can't wait to see the improvement with the Tungsten.

I purchased my m505 in May 2001 and replaced it with the Tungsten in October this year. No regrets whatsoever! You'll find the TT head and shoulders over the m505. All applications worked except for hacks and a couple of apps that have since been upgraded or replaced, so no functionality was lost. The new version of Mapopolis works great. I have not used Bejeweled, so I can't comment on any conflict or incompatability. Transition from m505 to TT was seamless. I just followed the folded set-up manual that came with the TT.
