I was thinking of getting a t665c from sony.com. Then I was looking at the sony website and I saw a NR70 refurbished for only $329. I think I'm going to get this one or the NR70V(with camera) for $380.The refurbished makes me a lot more cautious though. If anyone has ordered a refurb PDA from sony.com please tell me was it in good working coondition and was it shipped quickly? Thanks.

I bought my NR70V refurbished on Ubid.com for $330. It came in a sealed Sony box along with everything you get when you buy it new (manuals, CDs, headphones). Everything is well packaged and if the outside of the box didn't say Refurbished, you'd never be able to tell.

When I ordered my Clie, I was under the impression that it came with a 30 day warranty from Sony...just enough to cover any initial defects. However, upon Internet registration, Sony extended the warranty to a full year...the same warranty you get with a brand new unit.

The quality of the Clie itself is excellent. I've only been able to find one "problem" with my Clie....and it's not even a problem. The date book button has a little more play in it than the other hardware buttons...not a defect by any means...but it's the only shred of evidence that it's a refurbished product that I can find.

I was in the same situation you were in...about to by a 665, but I decided to take the risk and buy refurbished instead and I ended up getting a much better Clie for a super price. I hope you have as much luck as I did.

I bought my NR70 as a refurb. It's brilliant... came sealed from Sony, and was great. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever. I can't add any more than margelef really, but to say I'm as pleased as margelef, and the more recomendations, the better. I can't find a single problem with mine tho.

I was also in the situation as to get a cheaper Clie or Palm, and decided to go with the NR70 refurb. I'm not sorry. It cost me the equivilent of £220, and the new models in England cost about £450... I was really pleased. Only problem I have is that my warranty is US, and I have to send it to a friend in the US if I need to get it fixed. Once the year is up tho I think I may be tempted to fix it myself! :D

My NR70 is a refurbished unit. I purchased it from UBID for about $225. I have not had any problems and I love it!:D

Is it true that all refurbished Clies have a serial number starting with "S" ?

Cheers,

Refurbished comes with "9" as a serial number. I bought two, one for my gf, and one for me..well i got NR70V, and they are both refurbished....

I got problems with my gf NR70, there is a scratch on the inside panel, i think it was a return item. Oh well, shes not that picky anyway as long as it works.

Mine looks great, but i think my cradle was used. My NR still have its stickers on, thus my gf hasnt so i know her is returned.

Just dont expect it would be picture perfect. Another thing, the full year warranty is not gonna work with refurbished NR70V, I found it just now while registering...click the link if u dont believe me hehehe https://ciscweb.sel.sony.com/pegreg/ https://ciscweb.sel.sony.com/pegreg/

sorry to burst your bubble but you know what, i will still register coz my serial at the back is not 9!!!! :D

doesn't the letter R in NR70 stand for refurbished?

nagaraju,
No, the R does not stand for refurbished. That is merely the Sony Model number. The NR70/V is the model number of the older 66 MHz Clies. The NX70/V is the newer 200 MHz Clie.

The refurbs at Sony still have the warranty so you really can't go wrong.

It will say on the back Refurbished, at least mine does.

I was told by Sony the NR70V/U/R was U=used R=refurbished. I guess mine is both, and it is working flawlessly. I agree with all prior positive comments. Get it, love it.

Incidentally sony's customer service has taken hits in some forums I've read recently so I was a little wary... everything with the purchase transaction went fine and I've called them twice and they have been most helpful (and even though the electronic message tells you you'll wait 20 minutes, I only waited about 5 -- my guess is they are trying to deflect people to the online customer service).

no, the U doesn't stand for used. I believe it stands for US, as there are other letters in that spot for other countries/languages. Anyways, if it was used, how would sony put a U on it? Doesn't really make sense, does it.
