I was toying with idea to run Opera Mini (currently v. 3 and beta 4.1) on EPOC.

I believe my Psion netBook has Java Runtime Environment 1.14 <http://www.hasiland.com/javaonepoc/javac.html>

I understand that running Opera Mini requires Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME)

There is some possibilities to establish J2ME at least on Java 2 Standard Edition 1.4 and above <http://microemu.org/>

And Opera Mini can adapt to different screen sizes. <http://my.opera.com/larskl/blog/2008/03/29/opera-mini-in-1280-1024>

Has somebody tried something like that?

Would never work, can't explain why but the psion possibilities are worse

As I understand it, someone would have to port a later JVM to EPOC, which is probably too major an undertaking for our small community now.

I managed to start some older version of microemulator on netBook. I also played some MIDP 1.0 games. Emulation is not perfect, there are some issues of keyboard mapping, some games could start to menu, but you could not play it, no keyboard response...etc. So, it "partly" works.

Is recent version of microemulator still JVM 1.1.8 compatible?

I guess a j2me apps will run on linux os, which could be ported on psion.
But, I never tried, just a theory.
