I emailed Teklogix a few months ago asking if there was any chance they might produce an update to the email program to enable smtp authentication. Does anybody know if there is any movement on this? I know that XJMail is out there, but I really like the EPOC Mail client - and rather not re-faff and mess with a new app when there could be an easier solution: issue an update to the email program that just added smtp authentication?

Now that OPL is open source, could this be done independently? Would it be possible? Maybe I get the wrong end of the stick - but does it mean that source code for Email etc will be open too?

best,
David.

I'm afraid you have got the wrong end of the stick - the OPL language has been open sourced, not the source code to any EPOC applications.

I may be wrong in this, but I doubt Psion will update the Email application unless a corporate client requests it. Even then, the update may not filter down to us lowly home users :(

At this point, if I were you, I would at least evaluate XJMail.

David

I can recall a request coming through a while back for SMTP authentication, but unfortunately this is not on our engineering 'radar' and we don't have any plans to update the ER5 email client. This lack of functionality is not causing us too many problems currently, but I suspect it will become more and more of an issue as time marches on.

Sorry I can't be the bearer of happier news for you.
