How is the cheapest way to connect the MC218 to internet with the dial up? The cheapest way is probably to use an external PC modem, unless you want to use an internal modem in the PC.

To use an external modem you require:

- The EPOC Connect serial cable
- Null Modem Adapter (or null modem cable)
- Any gender changers and serial adapters to get it all connected

To use the PC's internal modem:

1) The "Passthru" application which lets you connect with the PC's internal modem while the PC is not using it.

2) The "Mocha PPP" application which lets you share the connection which is already running on the PC.

Passthru from http://millican.info/Home/

Mocha PPP from http://www.mochasoft.dk/f_view.html

Or... by setting your PC up to accept incoming connections from the serial port and run a proxy server to let it connect to the internet.

This method is free if you have the serial cable and an computer connected to thr internet, but a bit hard to set up. You can keep using the connection on both your PC and MC218 with this method.

Hallo,

thanks for you help.
Mike I would ask you some clarification regarding your reply, because I am quite junior of such things.
Please see my comments near your points:

- The EPOC Connect serial cable {is that one to connecto MC to PC?)
- Null Modem Adapter (or null modem cable) {Where I could find it, it is possible in a "normal" hardware shop?}
- Any gender changers and serial adapters to get it all connected
{What is this "changers and serial adapters" and where I could buy it?}

Anyone know How much it could be cost?

thanks

regards

yes

[b]- Null Modem Adapter (or null modem cable) {Where I could find it, it is possible in a "normal" hardware shop?}

Possibly. 'Null modem' is standard terminology, so

{What is this "changers and serial adapters" and where I could buy it?}

You will only need these if the plug at the end of the null modem cable doesn't match the one on the modem (or PC if you are using the MochaPPP solution).

A gender changer converts a plug into a socket (or the other way around), and a serial adapter converts a 9 pin plug into a 25 pin one (or the other way around).

I know you are in Italy, but here is a UK site to give you an idea:

http://www.serialleads.co.uk/

They even do a lead that you can plug direct from the Psion into a modem...
