I posted this several weeks ago and it still won't sync. When I put the ipaq into the craddle it comes up with the message "cannot start communications with the desktop computer. Remote Networking could not start due to a critcal error (Error 604).
I have tried uninstalled the software and reinstalling it. I have tried resetting the ipaq. I have tried a different craddle. It doesn't have any problems charging. I need help and am at lost. If anyone knows anything else to try please let me know.
Thanks

I had a similar issue with a Velo 1. It was related to the cable connection to the device. Have you tried doing an active synch without the cradle with your iPaq? You may also want to try an infrared connection if you have an IR port to determine if it is a hardware or software issue.

I tried a connect with two different craddles and also with 4in1 cable that can charge or sync up. All with the same result. I don't know of a way to get my laptop to connect with out the cable.
I am willing to try anything at this point.

Are you sure you don't have an IR port on your laptop? Synching via IR would determinine if your iPaq's connector is functioning as it seems that you don't have a problem with cables.
Also, are you using version 3.6 Activesync (which is available on the Microsoft PocketPC site)?
If none of these options work, then you should contact HP since your 3950 is still under warranty.

Try this:
Remove your ipaq from the cradle and reboot the host computer. BTW, never cradle the ipaq until the host computer is fully booted and remove the ipaq from the cradle when booting the desktop.
Change the name of the ipaq device (settings, system, about, device id).
When you next cradle the device you should be prompted to create a new partnership.

I tried renaming the device and it didn't prompt me to set up new partnership. My Ipaq changed the name, but when I go to sync it still says the old name and come up with the same error. I looked and don't see an IR port on my laptop.

I downloaded the newest version. It still won't sync. :(
