Specs for the e740 mentioned " GPS capabilities". Just got email from TEch Support saying that:

"Unfortunately at this time Toshiba has not tested or approved any Gps to work with any of its pocketpc."

What gives??? does it have GPS capabilities or not? Anybody with suggestions will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Got my E740 Monday with the Pharos CF GPS. Works OK and with the Pharos map package your E740 can function as a mobile system. Hardest part of setting up is getting Activesync to not lose connection during transfer of a 15 MB file.

A little quirky when switching applications. The stream of data stops from the GPS and it has to disabled and re-enabled.

As a previous palm and handspring owner, e740/Pocket PC stability so far is no too impressive. Cant wait until the patches are out!

Thanks for your reply. I found a press release from Pharos here:
Pharons Press Release on Toshiba (http://www.pharosgps.com/products/toshiba/PF022.htm)

and called Toshiba Tech Support. They were not aware of this at all.

Now I am looking around for best prices on the Pharos kit. Now that you have it working, what is your assesment?

Asked about the ActiveSync issue and they are not aware of any problems. They asked me to trasnfer a 15Mb+ audio/video file. That will tell us if it a Pharos issue or the PDA/ActiveSync issue.

My PDA otherwise works fine, but there is a problem with the 802.11b wireless feature that I will post later.

I bought the Pharos iGPS-CF this week for use on my e740. It seems to work okay, but I, too, have the large-file Active Sync problem. Any large file I try to transfer (>4MB) ends up hanging my PC, not my e470. It is not related to Pharos, because the same thing happened on installing a large book file with unrelated software. My PC was locked up so bad, my Win2000 installation was corrupted and wouldn't restart. Haven't been able to get through to Toshiba yet. I can get around the large file problem for the most part by removing my SD card, putting it in an SD card USB reader, putting that into another PC, writing the files to the proper directory, and putting the SD card back into the e470.

Checkout www.teletype.com. I bought one of their combination packages of the U.S. & Europe as my son is in the Air Force in Germany and we visit his family evey year. It works great on my e740 and my Hp laptop.
