Can't connect to desktop internet unless ipaq in cradle?

For some reason when I startup my PC, it won't connect to the internet (broadband) unless my ipaq is in the cradle. It just stalls until I place the ipaq into the cradle.

Anyone know why this happens? Is it normal?
