Okay finally I took the plunge and got myself an IPAQ. Its been a long desired purchase.
Since I couldnt afford the new one, I found myself a slightly used one from ebay. The unit works well and I am glad I got that for myself.
Now, as I start playing around on it, I have a few questions:
1) How do I know if the OS is PPC2000 or PPC2002? Is there someplace on the device that I can check? If I have PPC2000, would you recommend that I upgrade to PPC2002? If yes, then do I have to purchase it or is it some sort of upgrade download?
2) I am like the use of emails etc. Where can I get Outlook XP/2002 for PPC? Is it worth to install that?
3) Is there a better version of the calendar out there. The one right now seems a bit clumsy to me?
Thanks in anticipation for all your help

You have 2002 -- the 3870 comes with it. You may want to "stroll" over to the HP website and see if you want to "update" your operating system.

Inbox is already on your 3870 and it will sync with Outlook on your PC.
There are several 3rd party alternatives to the calendar -- Agenda Fusion and Pocket Informant come to mind...

Thanks!!
You have been an incredible help.
I finally managed to update the ROM successfully.
As for the default email and calendar app on the device... somehow I am not very excited with it... I am using a wireless 802.11b CF for connecting to my home network and so looking for something good so that I can "enjoy" this baby to its fullest.
Also, I am searching for the web browser - i think somebody pointed it out a while back - which is used by rotating the IPAQ 90 degrees - the sides become the bottom kind of.
thanks anyways... you folks are cool !!!

If you are looking for a new browser, I think you're looking for Thunderhawk,

You can also use either of these software to change the ipaq display to landscape, and use the existing web browser

However, being as stingy as I am... wonder if I want to spend money ($50 per year !!! - its insane)
... I am more of a freeware kind of person... I know I know... this habit isnt all that good... blah blah ... but hey ! thats how I am!! I promise that I will raise my kids in such a way that they dont become like me.
I guess, buying a PDA is like buying a white elephant - u spend more money buying the goodies to run it!
