Has anyone seen the GSM slot under the battery on the new 5400 series? It is defintily a SIM slot but it is unadvertised. I placed a SIM in the slot and nothing happens and there is no software to control that...but I bet there will be soon. Anyone heard or seen this?

Definitely a sim card slot there. I've been reading its for the 56xx series iPaq that has GPRS and not WiFi. If we can get sim card access, that would be INCREDIBLE:)

As far as I know, h54xx series does not have GSM support.
You may have to buy the Siemens phone.
h54xx is launched to compete with the Toshiba e740.

I just compared the two(Aestheticallly) in CompUSA. It's slightly sleeker than 3955, display is similar.....

Well, according to HP and my own fiddling with my 5450, my previous post stands as what the deal is.

I've heard that the 54xx series will contain 3 different options,
on three different machines. The first type with wifi is out now. The other three would follow

one with wifi, one with gsm/gprs, and one with gps

I just ordered the wifi version, can't wait to get it.

Most posts I've seen indicate the current 5400 series probably won't work w/ SIM card, that the SIM slot was included to keep retooling costs down for the future versions. I am using the Sprint CF2031 compact flash card in mine, and I can make and recieve calls, although I got it for the G3 Sprint PCS Vision data connection. Since the card has both data and voice, it qualifies for the $30 - 40 per month that includes 300 minutes and UNLIMITED data. Having used GPRS (T68i) w/ my 5400, it was too spotty and slow. The G3 is consistantly twice as fast. Just my 2cents.
