Have you soft reset or hard reset it?

I've tried soft reset multiple times. I get the today screen with "unlock" at the bottom. Tap unlock and I ge t a basically blank screen with "to unlock the device, tap unlock" and an unlock box. I'm about to try and TAP the screen with a hammer.

I'm new to this WM5. what is the "correct" hard reset procedure and will I lose everything? WM5 doesn't give a backup device option when I plug it in to the cradle.

Thanks in advance.

So what happen if you tap that unlock box? Unless you assigned a pin to lock the device, it should be similar to your cell phone to unlock it, click the unlock at the bottom then confirm it with tapping unlock box (also try confirming it with real buttons)
Are you in landscape or portrait mode? One possible issue is that you did not calibrate the screen correctly.

I tap the unlock box and nothing happens. I've never assigned a pin. The screen alignment has been slipping lately.

The Ipaq is in portrait mode.

I can tap the unlock button but can not select the unlock confirmation. I have tried the buttons, but none of them seem to work.

I just removed the battery. No joy.

What is the hard reset sequence?

To perform a clean reset:

1) Press and hold the Calendar button, the Power button, and the Messaging button.
2) While holding these buttons, use the stylus to press the Reset button.
3) When the screen begins to fade, release all of the buttons, and then remove the stylus from the Reset button.

Thanks Answer Dude!

A hard reset and I'm back in.

Is there a replacement for the old Ipaq backup? I would like to save the few files and settings that end up in the system memory. It's Windows and I know that another hard reset is in the future.

Is there a way to default ALL memory to the SD or CF slot?

You will need 3rd party backup software such as Sprite Backup.
