Hello,

Google Maps is a very nice application for you mobile device because it allows you to look up all kinds of destinations (café’s, restaurants or other fun places to visit). It has a much larger set of destinations than the Point of Interest (POI) collection of TomTom.

I own an Acer N35 and it was very questionable whether Google Maps would work on this device.

I finally managed to get it working after doing the following steps:
1. Buy an SDIO Bluetooth expansion Card.
2. Upgrade the OS to Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (SE).
3. Install Google Maps v2.1.0.10.cab (later versions do not work on Windows Mobile 2003).
4. Configure Google Maps.

1 You of course need a connection to the internet. One of the options is to connect to the internet via you mobile phone using a Bluetooth connection. The Acer N35 does not have a Bluetooth connection so you have to buy a Bluetooth expansion card (Socket SDIO Bluetooth Connection Kit).

2 Download the following files: n35_SE_Eboot 6.2.rar
Install by following the instructions below:

2.1. First need to update the flash files, to do this put the files from n35_SE_Eboot 6.2.rar onto your SD card. Once the files are ready switch the hard reset button to the left and place the SD card into the PDA, then hold the power button down for 5 or so seconds whilst switching the hard reset button back the the right. You should see a white screen with Download Img etc. Release the power button. An orange bar should then scroll across the screen showing its updating itself. Once done do a hard reset (can take a few minutes so best to wait)

2.2. Once the flash software has been update you can now update the OS. Same procedure as above, clear the SD card, place the files from n35_SE_v2.10.12_WWE_SD.rar onto the SD card. Switch the hard reset to the left, insert SD card, press and hold power button whilst switching the hard reset button back to the right, wait until you see the white screen (download img etc) and release power button - voila you should see the orange scroll bar showing its updating to windows mobile 2003 SE, again this may take around 3-5 minutes so let it finish as it will reboot itself when done.

3 Download Google_Maps_for_PPC_v2_1_.1.0.10.cab and copy it to the Acer N35. Double click to install.

4 Set Google Maps to use Com Port 8 for the GPS
By now it should be working!

Regards,

Steve.
