Hi all - this is my first post here. :)

I've searched the forums about this, but can't seem to find an answer - please excuse me if I've overlooked something.

I have a Psion 5mx which I've successfully connected to my laptop (yay!) using a serial to USB connector. Everything works fine.

I have a Revo which I also want to connect to my laptop and add programs, do backups etc. Well it connects OK, but the dialog box which says the system has detected a new Psion, doesn't give me the option to input the new name (it's greyed out). I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

Could you guys give me some advice please?

Oh, this is so disappointing - I know there's probably like a dozen or more that know the answer to my problem - please just come out of the woodwork, someone! :)

Honestly, I don't know. Can you rename your psion folder (e.g. c:\psion.bak) and try to connect psions once again to see if you get proper add-machine dialog?

What is your psiwin version?

Hmm its a long time since I have used Psiwin. Way back then we had 3 or 4 5MX's and they all had the owners names. I dont remember there being a problem doing backups. I think that psiwin made a directory with the name of the Psion for the backup.
Yes, thats what it did because if I wanted to clone one I had to rename the directory (folder) to the name of the new Psion. I think.

Try giving yours different names and see what happens.

PS Let me know how you get on.

I'm using psiwin 2.3. I've just remembered that I had connected the Revo three years ago and in the folder there appear to be some remnants of database files, which I was using at the time.

Perhaps I should just accept the default option and see what happens?

I think I fixed things - sort of. "It" now thinks the two machines are the same one, but by setting up another folder for the second one, I'm able to manage to back up each one.:)
