Hi Everyone,

I am basically new to the "Advanced" PDA units. I still have an old Sharp Wizard....not that I used it much.

But now I have a new T665C with 128 Mem Stick. I've been dilligentally trying to learn how it works and loading software, etc. But now I have a question that I can't find an answer to and I was hoping that someone here could lend me a hand....

I have loaded some software that I want to take of my CLIE, but I don't know if I am doing the right thing or not. I'm using MS Gate to find the files and just delete them. Is this the right way?

I'm beginning to believe it is not and that the files (programs) should be un-installed. But I haven't a clue as to how to un-install them.

I install them through Palm Desktop Install, but I'm having problems now with Street Finder (Maps) and can't seem to get it to work right and I know that there is some left over support files that it uses because I can delete the files, sync, etc and reinstall and it still keeps my password, etc.

Can someone help me understand how to remove software programs from the CLIE?

I really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Wes

Congratulations on your upgrade. You sure made big leap!

The primary use of MS gate is to manage your apps (prc) and datafiles (pdb) in internal memory and in the memory stick. Although it has a delete function, it is not advisable unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Reason: the MS gate program lists all files and programs, and sometimes does not recognize that one program uses several files. So if you use it to delete an app that you see, it may not delete other files associated with that app.

I think the basic delete function of the pda's app launcher will do a better job. Better still is if you try out a dedicated app launcher like Megalauncher or Silver screen, which will help you out in this and in organizing your pda apps.

Hope I am able to be of service to you.

Hey,

Thanks for the info. Just deleting those files like that wasn't setting right with me.

So, am I to understand that I should take investment in a software "Launcher" program to manage the install/uninstall of the PDA's files?

I'm surprised that something similiar was not included with the software bundle. There seemed to be almost no info on removing software programs from the PDA.

Do you have an idea why there is such a lack of information? or is it something that almost everybody knows.....except me of course.

Thanks!

Wes

BTW,

What is the PDA's app launcher? I don't have any icons or related info on it's desktop.

Thanks again.

The PDA's app launcher is what the PDA automatically runs when you press on the "home button" on the silkscreen. For all practical purposes, this should suit you fine, since it accomplishes all the basic needs in organizing stuff in your PDA. It also has a delete function that is better than using MS-gate.

However, try downloading trial versions of some of the dedicated app launchers I mentioned so that you are aware of what you would be missing. And I'm not just talking about them being able to make your PDA screen look prettier, but also it makes using your PDA more efficient, user-friendly, and even more manageable.

stay cool, dude!
