Hi all, I just got my iPaq RX3115 today, and I tell you, after 10 minutes of using it I'm reminded of why I switched to Apple products.

It runs Windows Mobile 2003 Pro, and I confess I'm having difficulty getting it to set up properly. Is there a way I can set this up to have quick "desktop" access to programs I need?

Also, is there an opensource media player for WM? Most of my media is avi and mp4, and Windows Media Player is a bit unfriendly towards opensource. Honestly the entire OS feels more MS product heavy than regular Windows does.

I'm wanting to set it up so that I can get immediate front page access to apps that I use, and switch to open source products in place of the MS ones.

Any advice?

For Today Screen app. launcher try cLaunch
http://pachome1.pacific.net.sg/~welic/claunch.html

For media player try TCPMP
http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/

Both are freewares.

Tried them both. The media player works, but sadly it drops a lot of framerates. The cLaunch doesn't seem to work proper either.

Thanks though.

Any other suggestions?

What are the resolution and bit rates of these videos? If they are larger than 320X240, you will need to convert it to play properly in the iPAQ. You can also try to increase the buffer size in TCPMP to see if it improves.

For launcher, look around here

under Today Plugins and Task Manager

Does anyone know of a mobile Linux distro that would work on this?
