At my University, the IT department states that they will not support any Pocket PC functions. How do I get my iPaq 3850 to sync with my desktop so I can keep up with my contacts, projects, and notes. I am a busy Medical Schol Associate Professor. The IT deparment insists on using Groupwise as the Email progam/client on the desktop. This will not run on the same machine upon which MS Outlook is installed.

Likewise, I also need to enter data at the hospital in an Access compatible format so that I can add the patients, and their related data, to my research databases in my office in Access on my Desktop PC. How do I do this?

Christak,

I see from the linked web site that Intellisync will work with Groupwise. Now I need to udate my Access patient database. I enter my patients into the iPaq with HandyDB program. I need to get the file back to the PC so I can run my Access File(s) updates. Is Intellisync capable of moving the file for me?

PS - thanks for the reply.

There are no settings inside of Intellisync to transfer the Access file. Since ActiveSync and Intellisync run together, ActiveSync will still be able to synchronize your database file. Intellisync will only transfer email, task list, calendar, contacts information. File transfers are still handled by ActiveSync. Hope this helps.

BSTEFF,

So did this solution work for you?

I'm have a very similar situation in my office -- our IT folks insist on using Groupwise.

I tried Intellisync and, after a full day's worth of frustrating trial and error, I gave up. Admitedly, however, I'm not gifted with an extraordinary amount of technical expertise.

I took my IPAQ back and got a Palm OS-based machine, but if there's a way to solve the Groupwise - Outlook problem, I'd go back and get the IPAQ.

Advice???

PR Guy,

When I said that it does help, I meant that now I had better information. I haven't tried Intellisync yet, but I will do so when I get back from Christmas vacation. The University IT guys refuse to suport Outlook. All of us Docs who use a Pocket PC device are extremely frustated. Sooner of later these IT guys are going to need our help. We will remember their cavalier attitude!!! If we don't get some help soon, I will personally put the skids under as many as I can. In this economy, their "take-it-or-leave-it" attitude will not help their employment situation.

P.S. As you can see, I am frustated. I was a mathematics major for my B.S. degree. I spent and 2 years as a Fortran IV programmer. I have also programmed in Clipper, C, and a little MS MAcro Assembler. I hold an Extra Class Amateur Radio License (the highest class) and I understand more than the average bear aboout technical subjects. I just don't have the time to teach Residents, teach Medical Students, take care of patients, AND do my own IT support. I will let the forum know when and if I get a solution. I LOVE my iPaq and I will NOT give it up!!!!!!!!!!!

P.P.S. Our IT department referred me to the Novell web site. The Novell web site was no help whatsoever.

I have been using Intellisync without much trouble. Our network has GroupWise 6 with service pack 1 installed. Pumatech claims it will work with Groupwise 5.5 and higher. You can download a trial version of Intellisync to decide if it will work on your system. The latest version has support for email and file attachments.
