New Avantago Beta, Access for the Locked Out

Everyone that is not a Beta Tester, which I've been locked out of Avantago since Avantago locked us Tungsten T owners out. I found out from another board that there is a new Beta, v 5.1 Build 40 of Avantgo out. I remember I read on a post on this or another Palm form that had the actuall link to a older Beta. I search for it but that post but could not find it.

I still had the link in the IE Address Bar so I launched it and downloaded the software again. I installed it, synced it to the Avantgo server, crossed my fingers and wam there it is on my Tungsten T and WORKING with all channels!!!

Instead of giving you the link to the software I'm giving you the link to the Beta page that has the software:

If you have problems check your AvantGo Connect Settings on the Tungsten T it should be pointing to Server Address:
sync.avantgo.com
User Name: Yours
Password: Yours

You can try the SD Card support, but on my 128MB SD Card it took ages to sync with the server and then when I tried to access it, my Tungsten T froze. Deleted all the content off the SD Card and changed the settings back to RAM and resycned. This time it worked like a charm.

There are some minor clitches with some channels, but as with Avantago these clitches is do to providers "enhancing" their channel. ZDNet To Go is one such channel under "enhancing".

Yes, I have been using the new Beta version for 2 days and indeed there ARE glitches. In additon to what you have mentioned, my buttons (ie: date book, etc)don't return out of Avantgo...I have to slide my TT open and press the built in launcher. I have been giving them all my feedback so hopefully they'll have an improved revision soon. In the meanwhile, it's nice to see some familiar faces on this terrific new unit.

I don't know if you noticed, but if you are in the My Channels view or any other view and you press the Notpad button your selection moves down or forward, Like a Tab key moving through the buttons on a windows form. The Tasklist button moves you backword, like a Shift Tab key moves you the back through the buttons on a windows form. The Address button opens the currently highlighted hyperlink and the Calandar button goes back to the prievious view.

I like this funcionallity no more sylus required. But if you don't like it, it is no bug. To remove this condition goto the Options menu, select prefrences and deselect Enable Hard Keys.

Also while your there look at the other options. For example Enable JavaScript and Online Images. You can also Remove tables and Images from view.

One last tip. If you leave Enable Hard Keys selected just press and hold the Dpad Select button. After a few seconds the app will close and take you back to your launcher. This works in all applications.

Can't thank you enough. Now that I know I have this option, I'll see if the hard key checked option that you seem to like grows on me. Now if Avantgo could just appear on my FACER app launcher. Avantgo's bug reports note that 3rd party app lauchers may not be compatible yet...I'm sure they'll figure this one out. Thanks again.

I tryed the beta avantgo with my tungsten and when i try to sync it says something about being locked out. Anway to get it to eork?

I got the same lock out message on the beta version. I wish they'd hurry up. I miss my movie guide, etc.

If you are a Beta tester and you post the link to the software you are in wrong! Read the email you recieved with the Link, it says not to circulate the program or program link. AvantGo can cut you off of its Beta testing for doing this.

Sure,we're all here to learn right, with regards to Avant Go cutting me off, dun see why they should do it since its a win win situation for both parties, Avant go fans get to read their daily content while Avant Go gets their beta thorughly tried n tested...

another weird thing is that if you clear all the channels it seems Avantgo does not free any memory (I could swear it did in the last version)

To post the link directly to the software with out going through the website is wrong. But by posting the link to the Beta page that contains the like to the software, this does not volate any agreements you have with Avantgo.

This might seem like spilitting hairs, but buy changing one or two words the whole meaning is diffrent.
