I just purchased my very first PDA. I have no idea what I just bought, but I hope I like it! I am so new to this stuff, and am very confused. I am wanting the Axim for mostly entertainment, and some organization. I definitely want to have wireless internet access. The sales rep said that AOL works with the Axim, but when I looked on the AOL site for handhelds, it reads that AOL or AIM do not work with the Pocket PC 2002 operating systems. I want access to my buddy list, AOL mail, and instant messaging... since AOL is what I have on my home computer. The rep also said I would need some kind of modem card for wireless access which cost me an extra 100 bucks. Does anyone know what I just purchased?! Or if I need to purchase anything else? And do I have to pay another monthly charge for internet on the Axim? The rep said I wouldn't need to, since I have AOL at home. But for some reason I am kinda scared! Also, I ordered it today, and he said it should arrive before Christmas. Which doesn't quite fit what I have been reading in these discussions. I hope I haven't bought something that is going to cost me a fortune to keep up with. Things seem to be changing so fast.
Thanks a lot in advance for any help you can offer me!

I recommend going to microsoft and seeing what you are getting yourself into. Their Pcoket PC site is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/default.asp

When you say wireless internet access, are you talking about like wireless home network or real wireless internet access, like roaming through the city? if you are talking about roaming throughout the town, thats gonna cost extra to get a plan through a cell phone provider or something along those lines.

The slot in the top of the Axim is called a CompactFlash (CF) Card slot. this is where you would insert any type of modem, memory, ethernet card, wireless card, etc.

just because AOL does not yet have out a version for PocketPC2002 does not mean there will not be one. I'm sure there will be a version out soon, since all of the newest PcoketPC devices will be running PcoketPC2002.
