Hello everyone,

I've got an Ipaq4700. Had a problem with it 2 months ago (could not charge it at all - the whole unit would be dead even when plugged into electric socket) and sent it to PocketPC for repair. They thought that it was a problem with the connector pins (the battery and the whole unit couldn't charge properly) and send it back to me. Since then I can easily charge it.
BUT:
Suddenly my Ipaq freezes up...in a very strange way though. It doesn't freeze in a way that you can't do anything, rather it is extremeley slow and responds in a non-consistent way. sometimes it works just like it used to: for 5 seconds I can open documents and close them, type things...other times, which is now most of the time, it freezes...as if it was computing things and after 10-20seconds it unfreezes and does what one wanted it to. The response time is so slow that you cannot essentially work with the unit. I have reinstalled the whole system twice and have still the same issue.
anyone has got an idea what the problem could be?
Thank you.

Does this happen when you connect it to the desktop and doing things from the desktop such as copy files or install programs? Does it freeze then or only when you are interact with it? There is a free remote keyboard and mouse you can try,

If it doesn't freeze then problem may be related to the touch screen display. If it's still freeze even when you are not touching it directly, some components may be failing.
Is there a repair warranty? 60 days may still be within the warranty period, they can at least diagnose the problem for you free.

AnswerDude,
thanks for responding to my inquiry.
I guess your questions might be right on for I have noticed one strange thing: if I touch one of the four buttons on the ipaq (such as the one whic opens the calendar) the response is swift and proper. I.e. your hunch about the screen might be correct. I will try to do what you've suggested and will let you know what the results are. But if you were right and there was something with the screen, can that part be fixed? I've already paid 100usd the first time and I don't want to be investing more and more money into something which eventually might just not work. The unit is at least 3 years old.

Yes, touch screen part can be replaced but I agree that it's not worth doing it if that is the case. I would simply look for a newer model.
