How can I stop running programs

Sorry for bad english!

I have a Gsmart MW700 running Windows mobile6. By clicking X button, programs do not stop just hide. If I do not want the device get slow or freeze, I always have to go to settings, running programs and close them manually. Is it possible to set the device that while clicking X button, programs to stop not just hide?
