Howdy!

I just met with a fellow Palm Tungsten T forum member today and we chatted about our wonderful handhelds. We met at a coffeshop for about 2 hours and swapped app's and held each other's handhelds (Ooooohh. You know that took trust.) and got a chance to SEE in person what exactly we as a group discuss in these here forums. And we had a great time.

So, as we know, there are already formal Palm Users Groups in the Bay Area (Silicon Valley, San Francisco,...maybe more), but our informal get-together was not so intimidating to me, like I'm being surrounded by a buncha super-Palm users who write their own programs and stuff. That and it was daytime, when those other meetings are at night. Plus, those places aren't the East Bay. (But I suppose they're still OK.)

So, I cordially invite those of us who live in the East Bay (or other places, too, I guess.) who wish to meet and exchange Palm-type wonderfulness to e-mail me and we can maybe get a mutual time scheduled.

P.S. I still plan on checking out those other formal Palm Users Groups in Silicon Valley and S.F., but until then...

Cheers,
POL9A

OK, I'm fessin' up ... I'm the "fellow Palm Tungsten T forum member" whose identity Pride of Lions was so polite and ethical not to reveal without having asked permission. It's good to see someone practicing courtesy and common sense.

As Pride of Lions posted, we had a great time, despite the rain and stormy weather. Time really does fly when you're having fun and 2+ hours went by before we realized it. We exchanged a few apps by IR beaming (we should have tried our TT-to-TT BlueTooth!), talked about current gadgets and planned acquisitions, gossiped about a bunch of forum personalities, and just had a lot of fun.

To reiterate Pride of Lions, we thought a casual get-together without the structure and rigidity of a formal users group would provide a relaxed and casual atmosphere in which to exchange information about our Palms. We plan on meeting again in the near future (after the holidays in early to mid January would be good for me) and would welcome any others who would like to join. Since Pride of Lions has graciously offered to handle email regarding meeting information and details, (and since I'm old and lazy :D ) I'll leave the coordination in his capable hands.

Oh drat -- this past weekend was one of those many weekends that I was up visiting friends in the SF Bay Area (including the East Bay! It would have been fun to drop by and say "Hi", and beam some cool stuff. Ah well....

[Just got back to LA after driving *late* into the night!]

Sorry we missed you clare. The more the merrier. Hopefully next time we'll be graced with your presence.

OldBlue: Early-Mid January works so far for me. Not international trips upcoming. (Darn.;) )

clare, let us know when you'll be in the area and we'll be sure to have a get-together that weekend! Sorry we did not know you were around last weekend.

Pride of Lions, thanks for beaming "Bejeweled" and "Lines". They're both very addicting and I may have to register. I haven't done much with DeepReader yet. ... Re next month, both 11th and 18th are good for me at this time. Let me know which is better for you and let's hope that it doesn't storm like it did last weekend. ... Did "Tide Table" work for you? I also received an email from BART regarding a revised scheduler app (I think it's Version 1.4) available for download. Did you show you girlfriend the Porsche Boxster movie clip?

Anyone else in the San Francisco East Bay Area who is interested in meeting to swap stories, tips, programs, etc., just let Pride of Lions (or me) know via email and we'll keep you informed of our next get-together.

clare: I think your friends would love to see you on either the weekend of the 11th or the 18th. And this time, fly jetBlue or something for $29 and save yourself from all that I-5 Grapevine ickiness.

OldBlue: You're welcome for the games. Those two get the heaviest play on my handheld. And try DeepReader when you have a sec. I think it's a pleasurable reading experience. I still have "Tide Tool", but sometimes I feel like I should be an oceanologist or something to truly understand the whole tidal thing. Or a marine biologist dolphin-hugger person. Or one of those people who live right on the coast and their house are slipping into the sea (like Pacifica.) Then it'd be good to know when not to be home.
I got that BART v1.4 update e-mail, but I won't get it until it takes effect (circa Jan.), because then otherwise I'll be all out-of-sync with the schedule.
Didn't show the girlfriend the Porsche clip. Then she'll get ideas and I'll have to hear all that talk about how she needs a new car when her old car is just like a new car. So instead, we watched "The Two Towers" trailer. Oooooh. Hobbits. Next, I'll show her this "Simpsons" episode I just converted.

So, mid-January, Ladies and Gentlemen of the East Bay persuasion. Mark your Datebooks. Be there or be.

Smiles,

Well, please keep me posted. My January plans are still up in the air, but either of those weekends might work out. Just let me know. Lately I've been driving up for my visits because I hate the stupid security on the flight check-ins, especially when I'm "profiled" which I was for several recent trips. One trip was a Bay Area trip where I flew into San Jose but back from Oakland -- since these were two "one-way trips", I was "profiled" both ways. Roughly pawing through my bags and scattering my carefully packed contents, examining my shoes and feet, much wanding. Bleah. Plus if I drive my car up there, I have a car while I'm up there without having to spend additional bux for a rental.

But, hey, it'd be fun to get together with some fellow TT'ers!

Anyone interested in a LA-area get-together? The palm folx here in LA get together on Satuday MORNINGS! And on the other end of town from me. My personal religion (that of "sleep late on weekends") forbids my usual attendence at these things. Plus, I'm especially looking to talk and beam with Tungsten Types in particular (not just folx with Some Random Palm)!

I would like to be with you in the SF bay area. Because the TT is worth to be discussed. But I'm a little bit to far away. When I had holidays in California I got the feeling of "Surfin US-" . But you guys and girls will make it.

From the western part of Europe. The part that is not very liked. I suppose.

To Pride of Lions, clare, and anyone interested,

How does Saturday mid-morning, Jan 18th, at a Starbucks or Peet's in Oakland or Berkeley sound? (Or anywhere else ... I'm easy. :D )

Wow 29$US a plane ticket!

That's pretty cheap. At least it seems so! Up here in BC Canada its never that cheap :p

OldBlue: Sounds terrific. My only limiting factor would be whether the Raiders or Lakers are playing then, but I'll sacrifice if need be. :p

clare: I'm sure your friends are thinking of how nice it'd be to see you that weekend. Us, too.

plyte & mmmkay: Call for tickets now. Make reservations. Maybe JetBlue or something flies way out there-a-ways. Here's an idea: sell your Palm TT and buy a ticket! But, well, that might not work because then you'd have no Palm TT's to play with us and we'd have to see y'all looking at us like underfed pets. So, nevermind. Bad idea. :D

Anyway all, I'm planning on guesting at the Silicon Valley Palm Users Group on Thursday, January 9. I'll be making a list of topics/problems to discuss with someone(s) there, so if there is anything niggling at you that just isn't being answered on these here forums, send me an e-mail. I cannot promise that I'll get any answers out of these people (I've never been to a formal group before and I have no idea just how they work), or even that I'll be able to attend. For those who don't know, I freelance for a living, and the surest way to get work for that day is to make plans to do something else. But we'll make the plans anyway and see what happens.

Pride of Lions,

We can adjust time and date of the meeting to fit the Lakers and Raiders schedule. Also, we'll have to see who else plans to attend.

How about them Raiders?!!! Their next game is Sunday, 19 January. ... Are you still up to meeting on 18 January, Saturday morning, in Oakland? ... Any other Palm users in the area who are interested are most welcome! It would be nice to meet some of the other people with whom we post board messages. Send email to POL or to me.

Hey OldBlue.

Yeah, I missed the game. Had to work, with no radio or TV-ness. I called my moms like, every 7 minutes, just to get the updates. So, yeah, Sunday at game time is kinda out. Gotta make up for it.

But other than that, this upcoming weekend sounds good. Same Palm time, same Palm coffeeshop?

Cordially, Palm T|T users in the Bay are invited. I learned a lot just by seeing what another Palm T|T user uses his Palm, and I'm certain the more the merrier.

So, everyone, drop everything and fly out to Oakland. We'll buy you a coffee. And maybe a scone. (But you better have some killer app's to beam us. :D )

I'll see you Saturday, same time, same coffeeshop. I acquired a couple of new toys (i.e. "productivity tools" :D ) since we last met. I'll bring them along. Also, a couple of new apps I can beam to you.

Anyone else interested in meeting with us, please email POL or me for time and place. It's informal and it's daytime. Despite the stormy weather, we had a lot of fun, learned things from each other, and gossiped about posts and posters. :D

You should have contacted me re the Raiders game. I could have taped it for you. Lemme know when we meet if you want me to tape Sunday's game.
