I am looking for a device with which to score while playing a round of golf. The kind of information I wish to be able to keep is the following :

• Individual scores for a 4-ball
• Stats for myself in terms of number of fairways hit, number of puts, number of sand shots etc, etc.
• Course information per hole including distance, (I live in South Africa so I need meters not feet) the par for that hole and the stroke.
• I would obviously like to be able to keep a list of courses so that I do not have to keep re-entering the course information every time.
• Betting taking into account handicaps
• The ability to be able to team into better ball or individual skins
• A “snap-shot” view at any stage during the game to see who is ahead

Someone suggested a palm would be a good idea and a search of the net comes up with a lot of different software. I am reluctant to buy a palm just to find I cant get what I need from the software – can anyone make any suggestions?

Lastly I see that the Palm Zire is available and as I want to get a device purely for scoring golf, memory is not an issue. Does anyone know if the Zire will run the type of golfing software as detailed above?

The best software I have tried by far is:

http://www.intelligolf.com/dibirdie.html

They have everything you asked for and more including trend graphs of various aspects of your game. Also of interest is 60 or so gambling games that you can play concurrently with your regular scoring. The gambling games can be done with individual handicaps to allow for some fun when playing with people of differing skill levels. Even if you do not want to gamble for money you can use it to score by just using a $1 for scoring.

The software allow for yards or meters and allows for saving of your courses.

Have fun

Echo RDVs comment. This program works very nicely.

I do not know for absolute certain that it works with the Zire, but I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't. I use mine on the M515.
