My beloved iQue has a broken screen :( I finally missed it enough to buy a used one as a replacement.
Problems:
- Unlocking the maps. I think I need Garmin's help making my maps work on it. We will see if they will be helpful on this or not. I guess I can transfer the good screen to my old iQue if they decline.
- Hotsync name. If I still had a computer capable of hotsyncing, I could just hotsync the new one to my old name. As it is, I have to restore from a backup or download a program that lets you change the hotsync name on the device. If you don't do this, any software you had registered to you won't be happy.
- Backup restore. I had two complete backups from my old iQue in two different backup programs that copied everything to the SD card. Both failed to restore on the new iQue, blowing up with numerous cryptic errors that only a hard reset could cure. The answer was selective restore instead of full restore. "Unsaved Preferences" was the file that restored my hotsync name, but also restored my old digitizer settings so be prepared with a way to launch the digitizer from a hardware button after that. I use a program called "Button Launcher" that can launch dang near anything once you assign it to a hardware button. I just had to restore the files in groups to learn which ones to skip.
- Maps. I still had Garmin RoadTrip, MapManager, and MapInstaller installed on my Mac, but an abortive attempt to love a Nuvi somehow replaced my City Select 2009 with a newer map set that does not route on the iQue. I found the original DVD, but alas it's too old to have a mac installer on it. Not sure what to do there.
