Has anyone out there seen the axim keyboard in person, or found a larger image than on the dell site? It's really hard to get a feel for what it's like from that small image. I like the pocketop wireless keyboard, but I'm a big guy and the keys are just a bit too small for any extended work. I want to know how the dell folds, what the keytouch is like and whether or not it's closer to a full-size when unfolded, like the Targus keyboards. Can anyone help me? Thanks, DrDan:confused:

I haven't but I found a nifty program called full screen keyboard. I clicked the "try" link and now am considering purchacing the software. Trial is fully accesible to what I can tell so far.

Also-

I overheard some guys talking at mcdonalds and one of the guys said that they were releasing a holographic type keyboard for pocket pc's. I don't know much, but from what I heard, it would plug into your flash card slot and project a full sized holographic keybaord onto your desk and it would recognize your finger movements.

Anyone else hear of this?

ya, its called virtual keyboard.

"Two companies have developed prototype "virtual" keyboards designed to accompany portable devices like PDAs, tablet PCs and cell phones."

that looks awesome.

You can't actually buy any virtual keyboards, yet, but I would bet they will be out sometime in early 2003.

The keyboard looks great and works smoothly. The only problem is that you can not have the unit plugged in with AC power with the keyboard attached

I have read about this keyboard it looks good! It uses the IR port on the X5 I haven't recieved mine yet so I don't know where the IR is located on it. Do you need the included mirror from the top?
Thanks :D any other tips would welcomed!

Not avail for the dell yet, buy I think this is a way cool product.
Take it in the shower, roll it up and hit your dog with it, let your kid use it as a sled, oh and yes...use it as a keyboard!

I have one. It folds almost to the size of a CD cover, minus 2" on one side. The touch is light, it is relatively small and you have to keep an eye on your finger placement (I have large fingers as well). All and All it is well done like the Axim itself. It slides out to the sides to extend and to collapse it you pull out and then push and it overlapses itself it's compact storage size. The case is black and silver with the Dell emblem on the front. Really nice looking. Of course it has a cradle in the middle of the extended keyboard that the PDA sits in. The keyboard is not generic at all.

Thanks Sam505, I knew somebody would eventually come around with the answer I was looking for. That virtual keyboard thing took this thread in a different direction and I wasn't sure if anyone would bother to read back a few posts. I have since figured out that it is basically identical to the Belkin style and have since played with one at office depot made for the ipaq. Pretty cool design, and I definitely think it is the best compromise between utility and portability. Thanks for following up, though. - DrDan

I have purchased the Dell Axim keyboard, but expect it will be a bit small for my large fingers. Targus is working on a Universal PDA keyboard, but no release yet set. I have long been pleased with the Targus Stowaway, which I used on my HP Jornada 545 and then 568. In my experience, the Pockettop Wireless has too many shortcomings: the two parts of the keyboard break letterwise in the wrong place; the double space bar is irritating; and the infrared has to be lined up just so. I tried it for a day, got frustrated, and sold it on eBay. The Targus foldout, full-size keyboard has been a reliable workhorse; that company's forthcoming universal keyboard should set the standard.

Yes I have the keyboard and bought an extra AC adapter. The keyboard has an AC adapter built in but it really doen't use too much power anyway. If you want power hogs, buy a WIFI CF card. They all eat juice quick.

Get the keyboard. Very sleek looking (like a dell laptop when closed) and slim line design. Well worth the $99.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't noticed the adapter plug on the keyboard. It's put in a very inconspicuous location.

Thanks for the information about the AC Adapter on the Axim Keyboard. It took me a while to find it. For those of you who own Axim Keyboards the plug is to the left of the plug in, located in the middle of the keyboard extended. The adapter is on the same frame that the plug is on , to the extreme left directly behind the #2 key. Hope this will save you some time looking for it.
