AndyH Beakynet 12-20-2002, 04:29 AM I have used it over the Internet - if that is any help. I haven't set up my Series 7 to use a Lan, though if I did the connection would still be via the Internet, only through the Proxy server and not the dial connection. If you have more details as to what your problem is I might be able to suggest some ideas. For example, you may have a firewall inplace that blocks port 5800 and 5900 (these are the ports required by VNC either through Web browser or Java VNC client). diem 12-20-2002, 06:26 AM Yeah, I've used the Java VNC client on a netBook (I assume this is the client you mean - if you've got a native EPOC client I'd like a copy!). It works, but it is dog slow. Beakynet 12-20-2002, 09:32 AM The Java one I have came in SIS format and does appear on the Extras bar. It is slow, but workable over 56k modem. I can't remember where I downloaded it from. diem 12-20-2002, 11:16 AM Another pointer - you'll need to enter then address of the VNC server in the box in this format: <server name or ID address>:<port number> Obviously without the triangular brackets, but the colon is crucial. AndyH 12-25-2002, 07:26 AM Thanks for all of the responses. I will go away and have a look at my system and try to be more specific as to what the problem is. AndyH AndyH 01-02-2003, 06:44 AM I followed the advice of IP then port using 0 and 5800 and 5900 as the port but there is just no connection at all. I am sure that I am missing something obvious so will go away and try again when time permits. Happy New Year to you all AndyH:confused: diem 01-02-2003, 10:22 AM Hi Andy, Dead frustrating eh? As you say, its got to be summat simple - do you know what port the VNC server is using? Can you test it using a VNC client on a PC? Is it behind a firewall? The Java EPOC client is frustrating in that it doesn't ever seem to throw errors; if something fails then it simply does nothing. Hope you get it sorted :) AndyH 01-02-2003, 11:21 AM The port is set to auto. I will make it a manual port. It isn't behid a firewall and I can connect using VNC or REMVNC from other PCs that I own. It wont beat me! Thanks for your time AndyH;) AndyH 01-03-2003, 05:04 AM I am glad to report that I have finally got EPOCVNC working on my networked netBook. The culprit was the vnchosts.txt file. Once deleted and replaced I got a connection first time to my server. The file looked perfectly OK with the correct details in, but perhaps there was a space or something in there that shouldn't have been? Its slooow, but still impressive to see a portion of a Windows screen on the netBook. Many thanks to all that helped AndyH :D diem 01-03-2003, 05:26 AM Knew you'd get there in the end - didn't even know there was such a file! Slow as hell ain't it? Ah well, usable if all you want to do is a remote reboot or similar eh? PDA Street
