OK I just purchased a Dell Axim and I'm not gonna get it until early January. I know very little about networking. I have a cable modem which connects to a Linksys 4-Port Cable/DSL Router (BEFSR41 ver 2) (not the wireless one). A PC, PS2 and XBOX take up 3 of the 4 ports.

Question..is there any wireless (or even wire-full for that matter) way to connect the Axim to the internet with this setup? Or do I need a wireless router? Is there something I can plug into the last port of the router that would interact with something I plug into the PDA (a wireless CF card?).

I obviously would only expect this to work around the house, Im not expecting to bring it to work and connect to home.

Thanks for any help.

no need... You can actually access the internet if you're unit is syncronized to your pc via usb cable or cradle. But if you want to actual networking, then you can buy a CF Network card. And then use one of your hub ports for your dell.

Thanks for the help. Forgive me though I have no clue about the CF netword card. I assume then the card has two parts? One that plugs into the router and one that plugs into the Axim? Or would I need 2 cards?

Bottom line is I guess, is there something i can plug into the router that will connect to the dell without wires. Some kinda adapter that would sent a signal that could be picked up by a CF card in the dell.

I assume 2 cards would not be the answer.

If you buy a wireless (802.11) CF card and you want to connect to your home network, I would recommend that you simply add a wireless access point to your network. Check out www.linksys.com for a complete list of wireless products.

Just to add to wunderkinder's post. I would replace the current router you have with a wireless router. I personally have a 4 port wireless router made by D-link. It's wireless and has an extra 4 ports in the back for your non wireless peripherals. So just replace your router with a 4 port wireless router. I suggest D-Link or SMC. Some people love Linksys, but I'm not a fan, heard of some issues with some of their models.
