Hello all,
I'm a newbie, both to these forums and to Pocket PC's. Got my Axim last week and have really been enjoying it. I've been downloading and using several utilites to enhance my PPC and wanted to share two that I've found indespensible to this point.
The first is called WIS bar, which can be downloaded here:
http://www.pelmarinc.com/pocketpc.htm
This is the coolest utility I've found yet. It has a wide variety of functionality. Similar to the task switcher that comes with the Axim, when you click on the icon (which can be the date/time) it will give you a list of running apps. Conveniently, it puts a nice little 'X' next to each one so can close them apps directly from the list without actually going into the application. You can also set it to start up automatically when the PPC resets so there is no need to manually start it.
It also allows you to customize a wealth of options. One thing that was confusing being a newbie was closing an app with the 'X' really wouldn't stop it from running. WIS bar has an option to keep this functionality, or enhance it by a tap of the 'X' minimizes the app, but if you hold the 'X' for a sec, it will close it. You can also completely customize the look of the title bar and buttons. You can use bitmaps to skin the start button, backgroud of the title bar, OK, close, and volume buttons etc. Here is a cool skin pack to use with it:

Best of all, the app is completely free, so I consider it a must d/l and try out. You can really customize the look of your PPC with this app.
Another cool utility I found is Nice Start which can be found here:

This app is not free, it costs $6 to register, but I think it is worth it if you use a strong password. It skins your password screen, and allows you to assign a character string to the four face buttons. So rather than typing a password every time you log on, you can run a series of button presses to enter your password. It also adds a WinXP style shutdown/logoff menu. This does offer a free demo, so try it before you buy it to see if you like it.
:D
