So what should I get? I don't really care about having a phone or MP3 or stuff like that. I just like the basics with more memory and expandibility.

I had a Palm V for three years...used the heck out of it - then I lost it last week. I ordered and just received my brand new Toshiba E-310 and 128mb mem chip. The funny part? I just found my Palm V under the seat of my car this morning! UPS delivered the Toshiba this afternoon!

There is SO much more functionality in the Pocket PC OS! I'm LOVING it! I checked out a few game demo's too - this thing blows away a Gameboy. The MP3's sound GREAT...I just found a $20 app that will turn it into a multi-device remote control (like the Clie).

Do yourself a BIG favor - do some research on the 'net...get your hands on a few...you'll choose the Pocket PC.

I scoured the 'net for the best prices. With my 128mb chip, I've got 160MB! And I paid just about $325 for BOTH the E-310 and the 128mb chip (that's counting in the $50 rebate too).

BTW - The E-310 is only a hair longer and even less so thicker than my good old Palm V...

Hi

You could always look at the M130. A cheap colour handheld. 8mb and expandable. A reasonable screen. I think it's a good compromise between price and facilities. Even here in the UK, (home of the rip-off society) you can find it for £150 (less than $240) before tax.

Whatever you buy, hope you enjoy it!

Open message to Retread316 and others that have older Palm devices not in daily use.
For over a year now I have been rehabilitating older Palms, mostly III series and V/Vx. The goal to put these older units in the hands of learning disabled students in the public schools that can benefit from the extra memory that the Palm brings to there situation. Many have made great use of the tool, others as you might suspect have not. In either case we are soliciting used Palm for this worth while purpose. At this time we have not put any money into seeking non-profit status so we cannot give you a valid tax deduction. If are efforts to bring Palm directly into this effort materializes we will be establishing a trust and will obtain non-profit status.
Bottom line if you have an older unit and you don't have a use for it, consider passing it on to us or go to your local school and seek out the head of the SLD Program. We would love to see this effort spread.

Greetings:

I used a Palm3xe for over a year and thought it was the hottest thing happening. I purchased a iPAQ3635 almost two years ago and would never go back. Just having Microsoft Excel and Word, not replica programs, make it more that worth it. I have sat at home watching TV and writing Spreadsheets for work. As for the problems adapting from Palm to PPC I had very little as had the wife, who went from a PalmM105 to a iPAQ 3650. It seems to me to be very like running windows on an IBM clone. I just went from a desktop with win98 to one running xp and had more trouble with that change.
I'd suggest that you go to a place like BestBuy to try the units to figure out what you like. No I would not go as far as saying buy an iPAQ, buy what you need and want. Try all styles and models possible and compare them, figure out what you need memory, speed, Color, expandability. All I am saying is be open and get what you want/need.

Have a good day
Scott

SEe thats the problem. I've done soooo much research and I am still lost. I've spent a lot of money on palm programs and would hate to have to re buy them on a PPC. I've played w/ the units at Best Buy and really can't get a feel for them. Half of them alwasy seem to be uncharged and you can't pick them up. I've played w/ my cousins PPC's and they just seem to complicated. I'm thinking of going w/ the TREO 90. Or a clie. I haven't a clue.

Dr. Mud do have some info about your program. You can private message me also. I was thinking of giving mine to my sister but I'm sure she'll think its old and outdated. Teenagers:) !!!

LDGB---I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I picked up a used IIIc on ebay about six months ago, and as much as I love it, I can't stand the 8 meg memory constraint. I've even gone so far as to purchase a couple of MemorySafe cards to store seldom-used apps and docs so I can move things back and forth as needed. Definitely not the most efficient way to juggle...

I have a LOT of apps, both on and off the device, that I'd really like to load all at once, and also have a number of devices that I'd like to continue using with an adapter for a new device (Palm Portable Keyboard being first and foremost).

I've looked at the M130, a couple of the Sonys, and even the Toshiba PPC (e-gads!), and as appealing as these devices are, I plan to sit tight another month (or two or three) to see what's coming down the pike, especially if Palm or Sony offers a (somewhat) affordable (please?) OS5 device with hi-res, memory card, etc.

I figure at the very worst I'm still frustrated come October with my 8 megs and end up buying one of the even further reduced models I've been researching, and at best, I'll have a brand spankin' new OS5 device and my wife'll get my trusty IIIc.

Not a bad deal either way.

Good luck in whatever you decide!
