Hi all,

I need some advice. My first PDA was a Philips Neno original Win CE mono and it was a lousy brick. I sold it and bought a Vx which I loved for a year and a half. Then I needed color and bought a Palm M505. I got lucky and got a 505 with the best screen I've seen on a 505. Worked great, no SUDS for a year and then the battery died. They swapped me with 6 crappy units and finally sent me a 515. It also had a great screen, but got SUDS 5 or 6 times in 3 months. Now they sent me a new in-the-box 515. No SUDS yet, but the screen is very dark compared to other 515's. It has shadows on both sides and a reddish tint, not bluish like the last one I had. I don't like it.

So, I am thinking of selling it on eBay for $220 or so. Now, what to replace it with.

1) Tungsten T? $400. (Staples with discount and pricematch). Nice screen, uses my already purchased software, better sound. But heavy and big bucks. No Avantgo. Long hotsyncs with mail and attachements.

2) HP iPaq 1910. $249-299. Thinner than the T and not much longer! Unbelievable screen. Handles mail better. But Pocket PC 2002? I don't know about that.

I am really tempted by this small, light, bright screened inexpensive beauty. I love Palm, but this 1910 is really nice.

I use my PDA alot. Mostly to manange my schedule, add and follow todo's, and to lookup contacts quickly on the road. I also use Handbase and keep a leads database. I use Avantgo a lot. I play some games and I use LauncherX. I like to customize my PDA and really play with it.

I have tried mail sync but it takes FOREVER with hotsync as it has to import my mailbox first and then sync it. That is a 15 minute job. So I quit using it.

I really don't have many resrvations about the switch except PIM functionality. If the PPC 2002 is slower and more difficult to enter task, meetings and look up contacts...it will go right back to the store.

My girfriend said she would by me either H1910 or Tungsten T for X-mas. What do you folks think?

Thanks,

Claire

This is probably a biased opinion but here it goes....

The Palm OS is a great OS for basic use. It is small in size and on most things works very quickly. That said... I started with the original Palm Pilot and switched to a Casio EM-500. The EM-500 was a great unit but too big.

I have been searchig for about a year and a half for a PDA like the HP1910. It has almost all I wanted in a PDA (no SDIO) but the size and weight outweighed the missing component.

It integrated well with all MS programs and has expandability ans did I say it is smaller than anything out there. The screen is great and the software titles over the Palm is numerous.

I feel HP or a third party company will eventually utilize the bottom connection to introduce a modem or Quark keyboard and maybe Wi-FI. If not though it will do just fine for my business and traveling needs. I also own a slim Sony Vio RL505 Laptop for internet connection until the PDA is equiped.

The only thing that really confounds me is why they put the 2.5MM headphone jack instead of the STANDARD 3.5. It would have fit. I had to buy an adapter to use another set.

I really think you will be happy with the HP1910 it is a great unit. If you use a MS OS on your home desktop you will have no problem with a Pocket PC OS. You can just drag and drop Word, Excel, and others onto your Pocket PC. The activesync of your e-mail is fast. I would say get one.

Based on your needs and likes, you will love the 1910, especially if you need to carry it. I recently migrated from a 515, (what are SUDS?) I thought my 515 would be the end all and be all, but I saw this PDA and decided to take the plunge. You will not regret it. So send your girlfriend out to get one already!!;)

I've had the 1910 for a month now and I absolutely love it. It is the smallest PDA and has the brightest screen I have seen to date. You will have no problems with pocket pc OS. I havent had to do a hard reset or had any problems so far. Battery life is excellent, even if you play games it doesn't drain fast. It has a solid look and feel, but I wouldn't recommend putting it in your pocket, you may ruin the screen. VAJA makes a custom case for it. I haven't got it yet, but it's $80.00. Looks like good quality. The only drawbacks to the 1910 are that you have to buy the cradle seperately for $50.00, and obviuosly there are no adapter sleeves for CF as of yet and no keyboard except possibly infared that has been made for the 1910 yet. If you have any other questions just let me know.

Why would mess up the screen by putting it in your pocket? I put mine in my pocket all the time. If this is going to mess up the screen let me know.
