I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a patch/fix for the 'attention required bug' that happens when you try to sync with ActiveSync3 and Outlook? Majority of the time I am unable to Sync anything but FILES, FAVOURITES and POCKET ACCESS. I have emailed iPaQ support but (surprise surprise) I never get an answer. I have also read many other people having this problem and they have also had no closure to the matter. Can anyone give some advice please?

You should get the new active sync 3.6 at http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/downloads/default.asp

I am actually running that version now with the updated ROM for my PPC and the latest drivers, but still getting the same problems.

~EDIT~ I have to take back what I said below.. I spoke too soon, the monster has returned! Anyone have any other suggestions?
I found an older post by AnswerDude which solved this problem.
He suggested following the instructions at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q299625
And, so far I have not had a problem with the 'attention required' bug since.
I just wanted to post a reply to my own post, in hope that maybe this URL will also help others that are having troubles.

Just tried your suggestion, and it still isn't working. I am running XP and my new Toshiba e740 does not want to keep a relationship with my laptop. If I delete the relationship and start a new one, it'll work for the first synch, and then that's it. I get the same error you did.
Anyone else out there have any ideas?

I know what folks who are experiencing the ActiveSync "Attention Required" bug are going through... at least it's driving ME CRRRRAZZZY! I have an iPAQ 3900. I am running Outlook 2002 (and Office XP) on the laptop that I sync the iPAQ with. (As far as the OS is concerned, the laptop's running Windows 2000 Pro.) When I first set up synchronization (ActiveSync 3.5, Build 12007), everything worked great, including e-mail. Lately, however, whenever a sync takes place, I keep getting an "Attention required" message for the "Inbox" information type. Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Favorites, Notes, Files, & AvantGo Connect all sync swimmingly, but not Inbox. During the "Looking for Changes" phase of the ActiveSync, "Updating folder hierarchy" is first displayed next to the "Inbox" icon, then, just a few seconds later, the "Attention required" message replaces the "Updating folder hierarchy" message. Any ideas for a fix would be deeply appreciated.
P.S. - In addition to the ActiveSync Inbox, I have a POP3 Inbox for a Roadrunner account. I have a Symbol Technologies 802.11b wireless NIC/bar code scanner expansion device attached to the H3900... I get the POP3/Roadrunner e-mail via the wireless interface. I did upgrade ActiveSync from 3.5 to 3.6, and I did try the procedure at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q299625. (Both mentioned as possible fixes in earlier posts in this thread.) Neither worked. Am I doomed to not being able to get e-mail synchronized between Oulook 2002 on my laptop and my iPAQ's PocketPC Outlook Inbox?

I wish I could say I found a magic medicine for this problem, but I have not and I still sit here looking at my PDA wondering 'was it worth it'?

I got mine working by going into Outlook under the Tools-->Options->Other-->Advanced Options. Then, well, I am sorry but I am not certain if it was under the COM Add-ins or the Add-in Manager, but I selected to NOT use the automatic back-up. This took care of my problems.
Hope it helps!!
BTW - The fix was found on Chris De Herra's Windows CE site. Here http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/t-shootactivesync.htm

Hey, rtoomey, I have a question...
Are you using your device to synch up with more than one (two) computers? I know that you can do this. You can synch up your PDA with two other PC's, but you can only use one PC to synch your inbox.
Did you try to delete the partnership and try again?

Hi, Chzball...
Well, I tried your suggestion re:Outlook's Tools-->Options->Other-->Advanced Options. I looked at both the "COM Add-ins" and the "Add-in Manager" options, but I did not see an automatic back-up option in either place. I did uncheck some OpenMail add-ins that I don't need any more (I migrated from OpenMail to Exchange a few weeks ago and don't need OpenMail vestiges on my laptop), but that didn't make any difference with my iPAQ's Inbox "Attention Required" problem.
Your other suggestion did ring a vague bell with me, however. I may have inadvertently tried to sync with my POP3 account (rather than my corporate mail account) around the time that this problem started to occur. I don't remember off-hand how to delete a partnership, but I'll research it and try that suggestion. Thanks very much for your help!

rtoomey:
Check out the link I provided in my prior post. It's full of answers. Good luck.
It does bring peace of mind when everything works...

SUCCESS!!! Thanks to you, Chzball, for your suggestion to delete the partnership, then recreate the partnership, then re-sync. That resolved the problem! I will bookmark the link you posted as well... You're right - lots of useful info there. Thanks again!

I tried the same but it did not fix my problem but created an extra item that says 'attention required'. Anyone else with ideas that may help?

Bratgirl:
Sorry to hear you're still having problems. All I can suggest is to read the materials in the link above. Did you find anything like what I mentioned above about the auto backup? That knocked out my problem right away.

I resolved my "Attention Required" issues by deleting/recreating the partnership.
I tried the CDO-Outlook fix: http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q299625
I tried the COMS Add-in fix
I tried the recreation of the ost
I went to this guy's site: http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q299625
...nothing worked until I looked at ActiveSync's File>Mobile Device and discovered that I had a partnership called Pocket PC and another that was the personalized name of my iPAQ 5455. I deleted both and it's all good now.
Thanks to Chzball for relieving me of this nuisance!

Thanx for the posting but I had already done this and unfortunately it did not resolve my 'attention required' problem... I think it is time to go with Linux on my PPC... maybe?
